Before asking "how is this build"....

First, USE THE SEARCH FEATURE
it yeilds many results and often you will find people with the exact same setup as you who have already gotten responses

Second, read the forums before asking
read around what other people are saying and asking without even searching
for example, youre wondering how the [x video card] is for [y application], go to the video forum and read around

Third, use non-forum AT
Look around the hardware reveiws in non-forum Anandtech. Almost every bit of hardware has been reveiwed or evaluated in a group of other similar items. Not to offend anyone, but in my opinion, the people who do these reveiws are more experienced than any forum member here
if, by some chance you cant find what youre looking for there, try Tom's hardware for other hardware reveiws

Fourth, if youre unsure about one item...
I've seen threads where the people post and ask about their entire build and then later state, "well, i really only couldnt decide on the video card" (for example, not direct quote),
if youre in that situation, ask about the card in the video forum

Last...
If youre totally unable to assert wheather or not your build will suit your needs, then make sure you include all specs and what you intend to use the computer for once its complete

The majority of those posters just want some stroking.. as if the online community is going to rally and cheer their build choices.. "Dude, that is the most awesome computer anybody has ever built.. how did you think of that"?

Shadowblade, its okay. I know, it gets annoying after seeing a million threads like that, but first time builders usally just want some assurance before building. Its usally just a "no, get x instead of y" or "great job, have fun building" answer.

The ones I can't stand are those treads that say "build a computer for me". I just don't reply to those or tell them to do some work in the guides

Well I see it more as, here's what I've selected, should this all work together?

Because if it is your first build, you've probably selected each piece individually and are worried about the interaction facet of things.

I find the ones where they already built the thing and ask "how's this?". Can't stand those.

Oh, and I think this is a repost too :p

Anybody that is a first time builder gets a COMPLETE pass from me. Ask away!!!!!!

I knew my fears when I first started. Just getting any response was a great help.

This wil never happen (I did a complete post trying to help).

I don't mind people asking if their setup looks good, I can't stand people saying "I have $1000.00, build my computer".

I mean, how lazy can you be?

This is why anandtech used to have recommendation articles for low/med/high end pc's, I guess no one used them though. Anyway, the "how's this build look" thing seems to really have shot through the roof over the last few months. Either this is a really poular time to upgrade or we have a lot of new noobs on the forum :).

Some of these newbie builders need a lot of help and what they are looking for is more experienced people to spell it out for them. I think its great that a lot of members take the time out to help them. UsandThem has a guide that should be stickied. It will eliminate most of these build posts and just leave the ones that are still totally clueless.

SAME here

Hey, Im currently in the process of writing a website explaining all the basic parts of a computer, what they do, and what to look for when purchasing. Basically a guide for noobs. Once Im finished, I plan to post it here. (Hopefully)I should have the first draft uploaded by friday.

I know you haven't seen it, but any suggestions?

You know I've been reading around the internet about almost every basic part of the computer. I've been digging deep to know what FSB to look for, what DDR ram, PCI-E or AGP, reading about Intel/AMD, etc etc. I even read through a little bit of that huge book, "Upgrading and Repairing Guide."

I know I'm a beginner to building computers, but I am trying hard to find out what the best computer I can build for the money I have and for what I want to do. That is why I have come to this and many other pc forums to ask for opinions on what parts to get and if the parts will work out well for me.

Yeah, but Im doing it a bit different. I've seen his and it's good, but it's awfully long, and addresses alot of stuff that Im going to ignore, and ignores stuff that Im going to include. Also, mine is going to be posted online in HTML aswell, to make it easier to navigate.
