Beets. With Pole

Roast them.

Take the beets, wash them, put them in a roaster pan, coat them with a little olive oil and salt, then throw them in the oven at 450 for 45 minutes to an hour. Take them out, rub the skin off and enjoy.

A nice dish is to take red and yellow beets, cook them this way, then cut them into quarter wedges, put them on a plate of baby spinach, add some fresh cut strawberries, crumble some goat cheese on top and add a few walnuts to the side. Om nom nom.

pickled beets = yum
pickled beets mashed with horseradish on ham or hrudka = even better

They are not the type served fresh as a vegetabls.

Well, I guess that shows how often I eat beets.

Boil them for hours. Once cooked you can eat them just like that or pickle them in apple cider vinegar with onions and chiles.

Cool! I figured most people boil them. Not long ago, when I read somewhere that they were good for you in ways I completely and utterly forget, I started to buy them, scrub them like a mofo (root veggies are dirty little boys) and toss them in the oven with baked potatoes and other rooty-roots and yum-yum, eat 'em up!

I roast my taters more than a hour, generally, and often at higher temps than the usual 350 degrees (like 400) and beets most definitely need this.

I'm lazy.

I've also taken to throwing entire bulbs of garlic in for the last 20-25 minutes. Roast garlic is loverly, doesn't eff with your breath that much, is hella' good for you (or so I believe), but most importantly, tastes GREAT!

Yeah, I have one of those clay oven garlic roaster thingies. Never bothered using it, though. Throwing them in works just fine, trust me on this. :thumbsup:

Australians put them on their hamburgers alllllllllllll the time, and I just don't get it. They even have the "McOz" hamburger at McDonald's sometimes, which features beets on the burger.

I ate a whole jar of pickled beets when I was about 9 years old.

Puked in a 7-11 parking lot and peed red for three days.

eh, all the readily edible foods are the worst ethanol sources available.

switch grass is a far more efficient source for ethanol, plus that's about the only point to even growing the shit.

Sugar cane is also a terrific source of ethanol, and that's only in the waste product in the production of sugar. You get all the sugar, and you get free energy at the same time due to the use of waste for energy.

Marijuana, bred for fiber length and not THC content (think hemp, marijuana basically without thc). Would not only be an awesome textile, but it is extremely capable of providing far more ethanol per acre of crop then anything else, period.
