beer guys: recommend a good pilsner

Stella... however, Paps Blue Ribbon is almost Pilsener like except with a can so thin the only thing between you and it's goodness is a blunt pencil or if you azn like me chopstick!
 
As the old adage goes "If you don;t have anything nice to say, don;t say anything at all". So, no recommendations from me as I've never come across a single pilsner worth paying for.

been drinking Stella all night, one of my favorites.
 
Pilsner Urquell is THE quintessential pilsner (im a nationally ranked beer judge). As long as its fresh and not light struck (should it come form the bottle), which is common for hoppy pils.

OT: I was at Bukowskis (in cambridge, ma) with a date a couple weeks ago and sent back TWO consecutive $22 bottles of saisson because they were light struck. The manager was cool though, great beer bar, IMHO.

Hmm... they've got Saisson at the local gourmet supermarket. I've always wanted to check it out, I'm a huge IPA head that's always looking to branch out.
 
not a beer judge or anything but I picked up a 12 pack of pilsner urquell cause it was on sale one day and it was
very very very good

Agreed - I miss the days when I could just go to the brewery and get it there. As another poster mentioned, Pilsner Urquell is also worth a shot.

I agree with the Pilsner Urquell. Though good luck getting a decent bunch from your local store, unless it's a speciality store.

On a side note, 'saison' is spelled with one 's'. You should know that Mr. Beer Judge. 😉

What bottle of saison runs you $22 a bottle? Or is that just speciality bar price?
 
I agree with homercles1337 that Pilsner Urquell is the classic pilsner. But I would avoid it from the bottle and try and drink it on tap, where the skunking issue is nonexistant. Czechvar is also a good czech style pilsner.

If you want a german style pilsner, Pinkus Ur Pils is great. A domestically brewed example of this style (Victory Prima Pils) is also great.
 
Just want do add that the first replies (and maybe there were more after) about Pilsners being bad beers, those people have never been to Europe. Sure they aren't as intense as an American IPA, but that isn't a bad thing. Sometimes you just want something easy to drink. There are a ton of great German pilsners out there.
 
Pilsners are probably one of my least favorite beers, though not because they are light & don't flow like motor oil. I love a good Kolsch, & I adore a well made steam beer. It's just something that hasn't really clicked with me yet. I really disliked Ur Pils.


That being said, my favorites are: Radeberger, Tucher, Victory Prima, & a very easy-drinking nod to Sly Fox Pikeland Pils(which comes in a can 😀).
