I recently put together a new system composed of the following:

Tyan Tiger MP
2x AMD Athlon XP 1700+
4x 256mb DDR ECC Registered Crucial RAM
VisionTek GeForce3 ti200
Seagate BarracudaIV 80gig
Maxtor 24gig
Hercules Game Theatre XP
2x Netgear NIC
Plextor 16/10/40
CD-ROM 50x
Antec SX1030B w/ 300w PS

Now, when I turn the machine on, it goes "beep....beep....beep....beep" and fails to post. I had this same problem before when I tried to start it with dual Durons. I am pretty sure I installed everything correctly, as this is not the first system I have built. I have windowsXP Pro installed on hte maxtor, and it is connected to the primary IDE connector on my motherboard, along with the Plextor. I have the Seagate and my second CD-ROM drive on the Secondary IDE connector.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Please post if you need more information!
Thanks to anyone who can help me!
-Jeff

EDIT: Added video card to list ;)

That is quite a system. Check out your motherboard manual, it should tell you what the beep codes mean. Could be memory, video, temperature problem, etc.

EDIT: I'm bored so I did it myself. According to the online Tyan manual, it's "probably memory". Sadly that's a direct quote, way to go into detail Tyan :) Take all your memory out and try adding sticks one by one, rebooting after you put each one in. One is probably dead or not seated all the way.

Thanks for the fast reply PipBoy! I'll try re-seating the ram right now. If anyone has any other ideas in the meantime, i'm still open!

Update: I took out all the RAM except for one stick, and tried booting it - still beeping. I then took that stick out, and replaced it with another - no luck :(.

I made sure that both of the CPU fans were spinning, and they were both plugged into the correct motherboard headers. Also, I used arctic silver on the CPUs, so I hope it's not a heat issue.

BTY, I'm using dual Thermalright SK6's with Sayno Denkei fans.

Damn I'm not as smart as I thought :) Hmm, I take it this system has never worked?

Maybe your PS is too puny? I know the Antec 300W isn't "officially" rated for even one XP 1700, let alone 2. Try checking to make sure none of the motherboard mounting screws or standoffs are touching anything they're not supposed to.

Could try another video card if you have one handy, but that is supposed to be one long beep followed by 2 shorter ones.

Stupid question, that board IS rated for ECC RAM, right? Nevermind, I looked it up, it is. It doesn't say anything about supporting XP's though, only MPs. I know they are mostly the same but who knows.

BTW, CD burners generally like to be masters on the IDE.

I would suggest checking to see that the video card is all the way in. Sometimes you have to push down really hard until you hear a "click"

Just make sure all you hear is a "click" and not a "CRACK!" ;)

LOL UberSam! :)

Well, it's still beeping at me, and I just changed the motherboard to the old one since I'm going to a LAN party tomorrow. It's a shame I won't be able to show off my new rig! O well, next time ;)
