Beeping Harddrive Problem

I had a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200gb Hard drive in an external enclosure. Everything thing was working fine yesterday, but when I hooked up the enclosure and turned it on today, it started to beep, I figured it was the enclosure, so I opened it up, and disconnected then reconnected .. same problem.. I tried it with no HD, and the enclosure itself got detected by the laptop.

I have a PC downstairs, so I set the harddrive to slave, and plugged it into the IDE.. same beeps, and the boot process wouldn't get past the IDE Detection

I tried to run the PowerMax test, but the comp couldn't get past the IDE detection to boot the floppy.

The beeps clearly seem to be coming from the harddrive, but when I look at Maxtor's support site, it said that there are no internal speakers in their harddrives..

Does anyone know what the problem could be, and how I could fix it?
Thanks

If you can't get it to be recognised by anything, then there is no way to see what the problem is.

UNLESS
you use a hardware diagnosis software that installs its own OS from boot.
Something like MICROSCOPE tends to bring up errors that aren't expected - especially from hard drives
