beep sounds on memory install...

just upgraded my ram to a 1g pc3200 stick from 2- pc2100 sticks and when I put the 1g stick in and boot it up, I get long and short beeps. And doesn't boot up. Is this normal? (test?) memory fits in fine and my motherboard does support pc3200 memory. I'm not sure if its defective or incompatible. Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks

With my luck, it probably is a bad stick. I tried a couple of times and it still doesn't work. It's just a constant beep.... beep.... beep.... etc... I'm running a phoenix 6.00 bios. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate your help.
