Sings "Fair well to thee, Fair well to Thee"

Definatly the end of an era.

ONvia rocked for us canadains.

On the monitors I checked.. no more free shipping. 🙁

Prices were raised somewhat.. but the worst thing of all..

CA sales tax. 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

California sale taxes!?!? Well, Onvia just joined Buy.com on my list of "don't buy anything from them". Screw the goverment fat cats.

Where is the best place to buy online now then??? (overall, but including hardware and such)

I would like to know good and bad stories!

Their customer service numbers also changed. Recently they purchased another company and they said that the new company was going to take over its sales. I guess it just happened. Oh well. It was great while it lasted!

every company will be doing this eventually
if they want to make money

is amazon even making money now?

First few years they didnt make a cent.

buy.com imo is still overall good, from my own experience anyway. Returning stuff is a breeze too (w/ onvia as well).

i see outpost charging for shipping soon as well... and amazon will probably close it's doors... too much money on stupid commercials.

As more of these dot coms close their doors, there will be less competition which means that prices will increase. My prediction is that etoys will be purchased by toys r us and that egghead will go under or be bought out. Buy.com may last the year if they are lucky.

Sucks when when basic economic reality strike, eh?

My beloved Antec SX1030 was ~$92/shipped back in July (heck, until last month!), but today it's $105.21+$15.37 (cheapest shipping)=$120.58.

We've been really spoiled by some of these sites and it doesn't help that some people feel it's their obligation to pimp them until they're bankrupt. Then they complain about the companies going under.
