Lately I've been eating non-stop, always hungry. I'm turning into a fatass. Also, I'm always tired lately and have been sleeping a lot. lots of naps. This isn't the norm for me...well, i've always had sleeping problems and am a big eater, but never to this extent. Something is definitely out of whack.

So those are my symptoms, anyone want to list what potential problems I may have? I feel Anandtech OT is about as smart as any Doctor :) - I had Mono for 7-8 months last year, I'm pretty sure I was rid of it for a while, but maybe it's still in my system, I don't know if that would explain the stuffing my face with food part though. I'm trying to eat somewhat healthy anyways :p

I went through this phase during puberty, I think it's just the natural building of muscles. I also went through this after I started working at a physically demanding job. I'd come home at 5pm and be in bed by 8pm for about a month, and I ate a massive meal. After I caught up with the demand it subsided.

If your a teenager, it's normal. Just exercise off as much as you can. If you're post-puberty, depression/stress/other sh!t could be the problem. I'm 19 and I still eat about 4 meals a day, although my metabolism kills most of it (still weigh about 165)

I'm 21. Guess I should of mentioned that. I don't think it's depression, or else I would know. I'm not sad or anything. I'm thinking closer to thyroid or diabetes. Yes I take multivitamins, try to take them every day. I haven't been exercising much lately at all, a side effect of being tired all the time. Would love to get out and play some sports or something, but that's a different thread...that i already made :p

Thanks for the replies.

How long has this been going on? Have you withdrawn from caffeine or some other drug?

Describe your diet.

If you're not eating meat (quality), fruits, vegetables, etc, that could be your problem.

If you've changed your diet recently, it could be the cause. It could be the addition of something your allergic to (I got ear infection symptoms when I foolishly used soy protein isolate a few years ago), or it could be you typically have eaten a lot of sugary/starchy/flour based foods and you've become insulin resistant.

Do you sleep enough?

Have you been taking a lot of hot baths, and wearing really tight briefs (not good for testosterone)?

What multi do you take? If it's something like centrum or some other worthless multi, I'd recommend spending $5 more and getting something like NOW ADAM:

Have you started taking any supplements lately? I was confused why I was drowsy all the time a couple weeks ago, and found out that the "non-drowsy" clartin antihistamine that I was taking had the side effects of drowsiness, fatigue, and muscle weakness. How the fvck the FDA allowed that, I do not know.

Go to a doctor and get your blood checked for mineral deficiencies. What your describing could be iron deficiency anemia.

This case is boring

Your leptin hormone is being ignored by the body due to leptin resistance. In other words, your body thinks your starving and making you hungry all the time and your metabolism is confused. Most likely due to Mono and changing habits last year. Easy Solution: Stop snacking! Only eat 3 times per day ONLY. No soda between meals, or calories, just water.

More details in the link below.

It's strange, I can always find an ATOT person with the same issues as me... first Pontifex with the detachment from life and now Adaman with the odd constant hunger and always being tired.

Although, I would probably attribute my tiredness to caffeine (it's a helluva drug) and sleeping at different times on the weekend, although I'm starting to wonder if the depression is a bit of a thyroid issue as my father's side of the family has always been heavy set and thyroid issues can cause depression (or change in mood) in people. My psychologist doesn't necessarily think so, but he hasn't ruled it out, and only didn't suggest it because it was relatively costly at that point when I hadn't found a job yet (which has since been fixed :p).

So Adaman, does a side of your family also have trouble with gaining weight (low metabolism), which could be (if I remember my terms correctly) a hypothyroid issue?

EDIT:

I heard about some of this from some guy on Oprah (my mom watches it, I swear!). He recommended actually eating somethign like nuts about 30 minutes before a meal to help start the production of leptin ( if I remember correctly ).

Stop snacking altogether? I'm not so sure about that. But what you're snacking on I do.

Good snacks:
Fruit, whey, cottage cheese, vegetables, meat, nuts, green tea, coffee

Bad snacks:
Pretzels, soda, crackers, potato chips, fruit juice, Tubway sandwiches, cookies
