ok i have 1000 USD to spend on my computer ive been doing tons of research and reading lots of the post can you guys tell me if everything looks good ?

i kinda want to get a 7800 gt but it doesnt fit my budget im not a hardcore gamer but i would like this comp to last a good 2 years for gaming at least

also is everything compatiable ? i have a operating system

and lastly im thinking of getting this monitor what do you guys think ?

i dont play games on high resoultions like i said im not a hardcore gamer i think 1024X740 would be fine for me right ? or do i have to play the new games on high resoultion ?

like i said ive been out of the loop for awhile last PC game i played was dark age of camelot lol im on a 900 mhz amd thunder bird with 512 mb sdram and a geforce 2

looks very good. if you can throw in about 100 more dollars, get an X2 3800+. just make sure you get a pci-e video card of course. will you be overclocking that system?

no no overclocking i will probably use it till it gets super old then just build a new one i do not overclock

im thinking of lowering the cpu to a 3200 and getting a 7800gt :-( what do you guys think about that ? also the card is pcie and the psu is 24 pins

Well if I may make a suggestion, if you are gonna step up to the 7800gt (very nice!), then I would go with a 3000+ venice and overclock it.

I know you said you aren't going to overclock it at all, but you can very easily overclock the 3000+ to 2.2 Ghz. This small of an overclock shouldn't be too hard to reach with that CPU. I would go ahead and switch to the Epox board though, it has an editor's choice here on Anandtech. The Epox board and the 3000+ should work great together for an easy 2.2Ghz overclock, with that speed you will be equal to the speed of the 3700+ San Diego with having the advantage of saving enough to go with the 7800GT.

yeah i was lookign at the epoc board it looks great but would a 3000 cpu be good enough to handle a 7800 gt ? i heard soem of those cpu bottleneck the cards ? or im i reading stuff wrong

well, what he's saying is just a minor overclock, 2.3ghz will get you to a 3700+ so, if that is ok for you. just think of it as you getting a discounted 3700+.

Yep exactly....and no even if you don't overclock, whoever said that a 3000+ at stock speeds will bottleneck a system with a 7800GT is full of crap.

cuase i orginally wanted a 3200 but i went with a 3700 cuase i heard it bottlenecked i think i will get the 3200 and the epox board
and see if i can find a cheap 7800gt

also will th emonitor i linked about be good i see in the reviews of most grpahics cards now a day they run the resoultion of games on 1600x1200 or what ever it is

yeah I would check out some reviews on the G70, I have not seen anything about flickering textures on it anywhere.

I think everything looks great dude!!!!! I would go for it!!!!

ok im sticking with the 7800gt the flickering seems to only occur in some games and when in super high resoultions also the latest nvidia patch fixes all that :p

now should i stay with the epox or save some cash and get the chaintech mobo thats the only thing left

Well I would go with the Epox here is some info on it from the Anandtech review.

No...I have been keeping up with your post OP, don't listen to this guy. The x800xl is a great card for the money, but for what you want don't go anything lower then the 7800GT. You already have a nice system priced out there, no need to step down from the 7800GT, there isn't really a card that you can get from ATI right now that will keep up with the card you have picked out.

what boat do you speak of????

Read some reviews on the Epox board, it's bada$$ for the price, even thought it is one of the least expensive socket 939 nforce4 boards out there it is also one of the best.

lol, sorry I must have boating on my mind. I ment I'd stick with the Epox and not cheap out on the chaintech.

Oh and I also agree with your opinion to stick with the 7800gt :D
