995? you mean 9950 or 955 maybe? please check and see what the exact cpu is that you actually have. also list your other specs such as ram and operating system.

that looks good as i worried you had the old 9950 Phenom 1.

sadly for 250 bucks there is not much out there that will offer a massive gain. you could get a 7850 for a bit under 250 as that is about 60% faster than a stock 5850 and offers lots of overclocking headroom.

EDIT: actually a 7850 is about 30% faster than a 5850.

60% is a good increase from my 5850 I would think isn't?, would this card be able to run gta iv tor example not maxed out maybe but close to it at eithrr 1920x1080 or 1680x1050? Or skyrim elder scrolls

Or is it a good idea to maybe save a little more ?

yes its decent increase but it would be a shame not to oc it with all the potential that it has. your cpu is going to limit you in GTA 4 so no video card out there will let you maintain a very good framerate on max settings. just play with the settings until the game feels good enough for you though.

I mean oc will happen for sure if this baby seems to love it why not give it to it ? Aha a

And yes my processor ah I love it Sadly I don't have the money to upgrade it yet :/ but I can always oc it a little bit I know the difference wouldn't be much but its something.

I hate steam all this because the damn games are 5 bucks :( ahaha

your cpu is not bad its just that GTA 4 is poorly optimized especially on max settings. even my 2500k at 4.4 runs into many many places in the game that are 100% cpu limited and drop into the 40s and 30s no matter what resolution is used.

Actually a 7850 isn't really 60% faster than a stock 5850, only about 30%.

At least judging from this review:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_7870_Twin_Frozr/26.html

However as you mention 7850's do generally overclock very well, and on average on can probably expect an overclock of about 35% (http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/radeon_hd_7850/) which would make the 7850 about 75% faster than a stock 5850 (assuming linear scaling)

you are not reading the chart correctly. a 7850 is just over 50% faster at 1920 in that chart you just linked to.

Actually you're not reading it correctly. The review is of a 7870 which is the highlighted card in the chart. A bit misleading perhaps, but it was the most recent review I could find which still had the 5850 in the chart.

The 7850 is sitting at 85% which would make it 29% faster than the 5850 sitting at 66%

I also got 51.5% from reading that chart, toyota is right.

66% reletive too 100% vs 85% reletive to 100% is a approx 50% advantage.

edit: forgot about the OP lol

OP i would also get a 7850, there really is nothing better in the price range right now.

actually I was wrong as going from 66 to 85 is only a 29% increase.
