im not exactly sure when it started, but recently i have been having some issues with cold boot/resets. like it would just hang on the POST screen. could it be a power supply issue? i have added some new devices lately...

heres my setup:

P4C 2.6 oc'd to 3.3
Abit IC7
1gb ddr 400 (2x512 corsair xms)
radeon 9800 pro
intel pci 10/100
m-audio revolution 7.1
asus tv/fm tv tuner
wd raptor sata
seagate 120 gb sata
wd 120 gb se IDE
optorite dvd burner
lite on dvd rom
lite on cdrw
floppy
6x case fans
2x 12 inch cold cathodes

i also have MANY usb devices, like printer, scanner, digicam, webcam, external cf reader, mp3 player (firewire), mouse, keyboard, gamepad, and an external 120gb hard drive via usb 2.0.

my power supply right now is an antec true power 430. do u guys think this is enough power for comp, or would u guys recomend i get a true power 550? or what else could be the problem, as i havent changed anything lately but add the dvd burner, external usb hard drive, and some other usb items.

once im in windows its fine, its just when reset the computer sometimes it just hangs on the post screen. also, sometimes my external hard drive doesnt show in windows after a reboot, i have to disconnect and reconnect the usb cable for windows to recognize it again. these problems are very inconsistent though, it doesnt happen all the time.

I'm having the same problem with my new asus A7V8X-X motherbaord. ON a cold boot it get to initialising pnp devices and then stops, the system does not crash cos I can press delete and get into setup from there. sometime it will boot normally but I usually have to turn it on then press ctrl alt del and then it boots up OK. I have a 300 watt psu running the following

asus A7V8X-X
xp2500
radeon 9600 pro
wd 40gb hdd
lg dvd drive
lg cdr drive
56k modem
Hauppage win tv card
two 80m case fans
60m case fan
crucial 2700 512mb

I think my psu is struggling to get the system powered up.

The PSU may be struggling to supply your system demands. Try installing another PSU >= 450W.

unplug all your USB and see if it still hangs.

it's likely to be power assoicated with HDD's/optical drives

i unplugged all my usb devices (except mouse and keyboard) and unplugged the dvd burner, and the problem seems to have dissappeared. i think it may be the psu not having enough juice to boot up when i have the 3rd optical drive and all my ~10 usb devices plugged in. i just ordered an antec true power 550w, ill see if that helps with the situation.
