I just bought "membership" into a computers buyers network. It was advertized that because of their membership and buying power they can get hardware at reasonable prices for their members etc, etc. It turned out to be another ripoff. After they have your money, they are giving you some useless info and do not have any bargains period. I would love to list their name, but I am sure this site would not want to be involved in any legal hassles.

I am asking for info from you guys and gals for good sites you have found. I would like to build some computers on my own, but with the prices I have found for hardware, it's probably more cost effective just to go to the stores and buy one outright.:(

Well, if you're talking strictly about money, it IS better go out to the store and get an OEM or manufacturer's system. But then, you won't have the full customization and _JOY_ of buying the parts, putting it together, and play CS on your own rig. :) Of course, you've probably heard all that before.....but oh well.

Anyhow, as Mingchia suggested, I primarily use Price Watch or iBuyer.net. I find them very useful for finding cheap prices on computer parts.

I disagree MrCraphead. Building a rig yourself can be cheaper if you just know where to look. Also, finding hot deals is half the fun! :)

A friend of mine wanted to get his 1st computer a few weeks ago. I suggested Dell on-line store even though I could have built him one. He was able to get a great system for a fair price. For $1739, he got a Dell Demension 4100; Intel PIII-866, 128mb PC133 ram, 40GB ATA-100 7200 RPM HD, 3Com 56K modem, 8x4x32x CD-RW, ATI Rage Pro graphics card, 19" Trinitron monitor, Soundblaster 64V PCI soundcard, Lexmark Z52 printer w/cable, line spike suppressor and all of the other standard hardware things plus some software. The motherboard is an i815 "Easton" model from Intel. He can upgrade the Video board whenever he needs; they offer as options, GeForce and Radeon cards at fair prices. I told him I could not buid that system for that price and all of the reviews I found, rated everything highly. You might find that it is cheaper and you also get tech support and a nice warranty. Also, they even throw in 1 year of DellNet internet service for free. Not a bad deal!

copyfixer,

Post the name of the worthless computer buyers' network. If you state it as your opinion that the group in question does not offer sufficient value for money and do not slander or make unsupportable accusations, then I don't see any legal issues. You might just save someone else from making a costly mistake.
