First time took a Washington State Highway Patrol car for a spin was 15 at the time

Second time was also 15, a couple of friends and me walked on to a live fire range in Fort Lewis Washington
and started to collect niffty little trinkets.

Third time a few friends and me jump fence to Koli Koli Pass in Hi, those that live in or near Scofield Barracks know
what type of trouble I got into on this really not so smart move.

Lets just say after my last stupid stunt, I learned!!!

Oh, not an arrest, but I got beat by a cop once when I was in my early teens. Apparently I resembled someone they were looking for. It was ok though. They didn't arrest me, just left me bleeding on the sidewalk.

heh. I hope that's a joke.

No, I am dead serious, though sarcastic.

Man, you guys are all lame:

Arrested in 9th grade for littering and ditching school. Took 3 cops to arrest me, and they kept me in the holding cell for 12 hours trying to get hold of my mom (this is the days before cell phones). Got to eat McDonald's since this little police station didn't have any food services. Heh

Arrested in Mexico for climbing a fence (the border park fence). We were just taking pics of each other on the fence. Sat in a stinking cell with like 15 other people until the next morn when the judge fined me $10 and let me go.

Arrested for unpaid traffic ticket. (Cop had visited my house because my former employer said that I had flooded his bathroom. I did but still...) Spent 30 days in Glen Helen. (note to self: pay tickets next time)

Many close calls, but those are the only times I was actually taken to a station.

Yeah, screw filing charges against your kids. Punish them yourself, instead of letting the law punish them, and have a permanent strike on their record.

It's not permanent. Erased when they hit 18.

EDIT: And I'm not going to let my kid think Mommy and Daddy will fix it for them whenever they screw up. Some things you gotta learn on your own.

Actually no. Felonies are not erased at 18, and EVERY conviction is kept on file by the FBI... so your kid would probably get sh!t about it if he went for a government job that required a security clearance. And yes, they will block you for stupid things done in adolescence.

I almost got arrested in Mexico for public exposure, taking a leak in the trees while walking back to my hotel from a bar, but I gave the cop $40 to let me go.

I also almost got "arrested" in Kusadasi, Turkey, too but made a run for it. I'm pretty sure the guy wasn't a cop anyways, but a mugger or kidnapper trying to trick me into going with him.

"Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

I've been " " <--- that close to being arrested a couple of times. All of the times were because of stupidity, the first was my stupidity and the second was my friends'. All would have been for possession.

Never been arrested. Was taken home by the cops once because a bunch of us were throwing crab apples at cars. I was like 12 I think.

Did not have one. Also, when arrested I was not in a car or near a public highway.

They filed charges, I got probation for a year and 100 hours of community service. I deserved what I got though, no complaints.

Who files charges against their own kid?

Good parents.

But they won't have a life if you don't show them the right path, and sometimes a reality shock is what it takes to show them that path.

Sure is. That was the official charge, but it had nothing to do with my situation. I signed the diversion agreement, took the classes, paid the fine, and had a year of probation.

No they won't. No security investigator is going to hold against you something minor that you did when you were 14 years old. And they give you a chance to explain the circumstances. I know people who have underage drinking charges from college, and they work for the fed gov't now.

If you haven't done anything significantly worse than anyone else, getting a security clearance isn't that hard. You think they're going to ban a 35 year old for something he did was 14? Get real, if they blocked everyone for such minor things, then NO ONE would have a security clearance. Everyone has skeletons in their closet.

Reply when you have experience with it please. I know several 25-30 year old men who have been denied security clearance for stupid things done from 12-16 years of age.

And I don't believe you - or rather I don't believe them. Maybe that's just what they're telling you they got denied for?

I do have experience with it. I have a police conviction of Disorderly Conduct from when I was 18. And do you know what the security investigator spent all of his time asking me about when he interviewed me? He asked me about my dad, who is a naturalized citizen. Not one mention of my record.

Thanks for calling my parents sh!tty. In my opinion, I think they did a wonderful job raising me, and that sometimes parenting alone isn't enough to shock a kid out of a phase. I'm going down a great path in life now, and I've had the experience of jail, something I know I don't want to experience again. So, I'm never going to do anything that would land me in jail. Life is all about experience, that's how you learn, not from just being told something, but from experiencing it.
