Been a while since I picked up my guitar

so, its been probably 5 years since I picked up a guitar. I played off and on for 11 years, but honestly I never really learned like I should have...it was more 11 years of jam sessions with no really method to the madness!

anyways, so I have a couple guitars, amp, and a line 6 UX-1 usb interface for my pc... how do I get started the right way this time?

I want to actually learn the theory, the chords, notes, scales..all of it

I can barely read tablature, and know only a handful of chords. It has been a while!

Anyways, open to any suggestions on technique for me to start out, books/instruction.. any constructive comments you have (yes I realize this is OT)

Also, I may consider getting an acoustic as well, since I have 2 electrics.

 I love to help, but get tired of typing the same thing over and over.

1. Get lessons so you can learn the right way to do everything
2. Learn the Major and Minor scales and the 5 patterns for each.
3. One you have that down, learn the modes of each scale.

You be the next Clapton.

If I did that, could I be SRV?

What he's doing isn't actually all that hard. Clapton is just a master of note bending- he'll bend a note until it feels the way he wants it. It's a take off of BB King's technique.

I have been playing guitar for about 15 years. However I started taking lessons a few weeks back from a jazz fusion player..Kicking my ass too I might add. I love it! And has opened me up to new music I normally did not listen to.

Is he doing those 12/16 sturms with you yet? 😀

Are there any links to the older guitar threads that everyone is talking about? I searched "guitar" and didn't find very much on recommendations.

Unlike the OP, I have zero musical background (I played drums in band when I was a kid, but it was very simple and that didn't require me to understand notes and such). I was thinking about buying a cheap $100 guitar set with a digital tuner and learn how to play. I'd like to learn standard notation and not just tabs. Anyone have recommendations? Guitar lessons in NYC are pretty pricey and the first one that comes up on google emphasizes that students don't have to read notes. If I'm going to learn, I'd like to really learn it.
