That's the sound my old athlon 600 system made when I started it today. A continuous low then high pitched sound, changing back and forth every second or so. I made sure everything was plugged in and probably restarted 15 times before it finally posted after 10 minutes of messing around.

So what does the noise mean? Sometimes I hear it when I start my computer but after I hit restart it works fine. I've been fighting the urge to upgrade but maybe it's the end of the road for my baby?

Any ideas on what's wrong?
 
I'm pretty sure, the computer doesn't even post or anything. I guess it should be in gh, I didn't even think about it. I'm leaving in about 20 mins though and I don't think anyone would reply in that time if I posted it there. If the mods have a problem though I'd be glad to ask over there, just lock this thread
 
Did you lose your term paper? Did you have to start over from scratch, and because you were running out of time it wasn't as good as the first one?

What kind of motherboard do you have? Different beeps can mean different things from different motherboards. Did you check the motherboard manual for a listing of which beep sequences mean what?
 
Haha, no....no mid term papers 🙂 Just wanted to listen to music.

Anyway, it's an ASUS K7V (2+ years old now I'm sure) and your suggestion is an excellent one. The only problem is that I'm at college and didn't bring the manual with me....I'm not even sure where it is at home.

Just was wondering if this was a semi-universal error.....
 
come to think of it....a few months ago I started my computer and it didn't recognize 1 of my sticks of memory. Perhaps that's what's wrong afterall then.....next time it gets pissy on me, I'll try unplugging it or switching slots

what's pH?
 
also the beeping code is almost universal, I know there are some pages on the net that show what the beeps mean

Yup, the first thing I would try if I didn't have the manual is swapping out the memory with some you know works properly.

As for the pH, that is her209 being a smartass.

A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, numerically equal to 7 for neutral solutions, increasing with increasing alkalinity and decreasing with increasing acidity. The pH scale commonly in use ranges from 0 to 14.

pH literally refers to the power of the Hydroxide ions. (which means 10^pH)
