Everything is good there, especially the bread & the dipping sauce. It's worth the wait (although I see they do reservations online now - although it's not really a "reservation" place).

I would drive to the Alewife T Station on Route 2 and take the subway into Harvard Sq and check out the Harvard Bookstore. And/or continue to the next stop, Central Sq, and check out the MIT Museum store.

Faneuil Hall on the Freedom Trail has a ton of souvenirs too. You can stop by next door to the Quincy Public Market and get high quality overpriced fast food.

If you want to get something without going all the way into the city, Starbucks should have some themed mugs.

on route 2 (leominster) you can find the johnny appleseed memorial gift shop and toilet (bathroom acceptable, but the chocolate and maple fudges were like solid blocks of sugar). also, you can visit 1 (or more) of massachusetts' many excellently haunted insane asylums, inspiring h.p. lovecraft, batman and many others. cape cod is a bit far for you, but downtown boston/cambridge is pretty reasonable. freedom trail/constitution/faneuil hall/aquarium/mit/harvard are great ways to spend a day.
