BED BUGS

So my roomates and I have this great opportunity to see a four bedroom apartment in a great area of manhattan, for a price that we can afford, but the place has previously had problems with bed bugs. Apparently, they don't just stay in your bed, they can be in the cracks and crevices of the walls etc. The apartment has been sprayed but I believe the previous tenants still had some problems with them. I don't know if the pervious tenants were slobs and whether the problem might be greatly reduced by the fact that we are quite hygenic and clean often. The other thing is that apparently one can spread bed bugs to other apartments and places by luggage and clothes.

Do you think this is a problem we should worry about? Does anyone here have previous experience with bed bugs and/or getting rid of them? Are they pretty resistant or do you think a good fumigating and cleaning of the apartment can resolve the problem?

Any thoughts would be awesome....Thanks!

Are you talking about dust mites or a specific type of bug called a "bed bug"?

Interesting. Anything that sucks your blood, especially when you're sleeping, is cause for alarm.

if you're talking about the microscopic ones they are harmless and they are everywhere. i read somewhere i think that the average bed has 2 million of them. all they do is eat your dead skin, nothing to worry about.

There was an article about this in the NY Post or Daily News a few weeks back.

It sounded like a nightmare for the residents. They actually sued the building and won some settlement.

From what I read, they could not get rid of them because it would involve covering the entire building and fumigating.

I wouldn't do it if I were you.

I'll try to dig the article up.

Found it

Oh man, that sounds horrible. Damnit, it's on the lower east side too (which is where our apt would be). Hmm. I wonder what the "right kind of poison" is..
