ive been thinking about taking the apartment to small claims court if they won't pay for the extermination. I am going to plastic bag all of my clothes, wash the shit out of them in hot water and take them to my moms till I figure out what to do

How does one take an apartment to small claims court?

:hmm:

Do you think this is what happened to Dave's house?

😱

If they were that big, my shotgun would be my repellant.

Sue them for the cost of an exterminator, and for the pro-rated amount of rent that my house was unsuitable to live in. Cost of dry cleaning my suits, washing all mine and my girlfriends clothes. Also, for selling me an apartment in a building known to have bed bugs without alerting me about it.

I'd try to get the other tenants in on it too. Both in complaining, lawsuitting, and exterminating.

But damn, that really sucks. When I moved in to my current place I found bugs and shit everywhere (literally, the last guy out didn't flush) and of course cockroaches. By the time I could get to see the management face to face I had already moved in (moved in on a Saturday). They offered me another unit in a different building but I had already spent the entire weekend moving stuff in and cleaning the place top to bottom. I figured I would just fight the damn roaches, I've had to do it before. Course management says that they would get pest control on it but they just put in a few glue traps. I went around and cleaned every nook and cranny I could find. I put down borax into cracks and under the stove and stuff. I put out bait traps and I sprayed down areas and I kept killing the bastards. Now I will go for days without seeing one. I might see one once a week and it's usually dead at that. For now, I can keep them under control in my place but they need to get on the damn problem and clear out the whole building.

I had bed bugs and they sucked.

Buying new mattresses was not an option so I wrapped up the boxspring in plastic, taped over all the holes with packing tape, and then got a bug-proof mattress case for the mattress and pillows. Then I put the frame up on little plastic cups filled with diatomaceous earth and pulled everything away from the wall.

Sealed up cracks in the walls, steam cleaned the rug and clothing. Now I just vacuum and reapply the diatomaceous earth weekly and have had no problems.

Pretty sure they've been resistant to DDT since long before it was banned, so don't bother.

I've heard malathion and others in that class work well. (don't think it's legal for indoor use anymore, though... maybe for a good reason).
Heat is the best, but with a bullshit apt you don't really get that option.

#198774389276389635799247215 reason why I will never live in an apartment/condo if I can help it.

Had them about a year ago, thankfully landlord took care of everything (they're required to in NY). Even with an exterminator, it's still a pain in the ass...have to wrap up literally everything you own so they can spray. We had one spraying, then they came back two weeks later and sprayed again. Worked, never saw another little bastard. We had only seen 4 up to that point. Good luck!

Fuck everything about bed bugs. Our apartment building became infested with them my last year in college. Worst 6 months of my life. I literally dumped gallons of pesticides around my bed, and encased all my sleeping stuff with plastic (mattress, pillows, etc...).

I am really paranoid when I go to hotels now. I thoroughly investigate the mattresses, and leave lights on at night. Then when I get home I always wash all my clothes in hot water and quarantine the suitcase for several months afterward.

If you get bedbegs in your home they are damn near impossible to get rid of.

This is why I check the bed in EVERY hotel room I stay in before I even set my bags on the floor.

holy shit we have a lot of those in the apartment too....there must be an epic bug gang war too bad we've been killing those guys =[

However, when the bedbugs are gone, you'll have an infestation of hunter bugs.

Birds eat hunter bugs, so you could unleash birds to get rid of them.

Cats eat birds, so you could unleash cats to get rid of them.

Dogs eat cats, so you could unleash dogs to get rid of them.

Sharks eat dogs, so you could unleash sharks to get rid of them.

However, sharks also eat people, and would probably eat you while you're sleeping on your bedbug free bed.

So, logically, your options are: live with the bedbugs or be eaten by sharks.
