Actually, USR was acquired by 3Com few years back. 3Com stripped the palm pilot stuff from USR, ate up much of the USR modem revenue then decided to sell the "modem" business (a.k.a USR) to form it's own company. USR has been it's own company since Sept 2000 (3Com, Selectron, and Acton (SMC) all own pieces of it) but it is a private company once again. 3Com failed in successfully integrating anything consumer orientated except Palm.

I used to work at both. ;)
