I'm considering picking this one up since I love classic rock from the 60s and 70s. Dumb question but I don't need to buy the whole band kit for this do I? I just want to play solo. Apparently the Guitar Hero Les Gibson works with Rock Band, and it's only $65 at BB. I've never played any of the Guitar Hero/Rockband games before.

I just picked up the Rock Band 2 Special Edition bundle for $99 at Gamestop yesterday. It has a guitar, drums, microphone, and the game. And batteries! If the RB Beatles game is $65 you're probably going to hit $99 just on the guitar.

When I checked BB they had the Beatles bundle with all the normal instruments at $140. Unless you want the special Beatles collector instruments, that was $250.

Just be aware that the Beatles Value Edition ($140 @ Amazon) contains Rock Band *1* instruments, not the far superior instruments you get with the $99 Rock Band 2 bundle. So the best way to get Beatles, if you don't want to fork over $250 for those instruments is to buy the $99 bundle and the Beatles game only. Then you get RB2 + Beatles + good instruments.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that. I was going to buy that bundle and sell the Beatles game, but then it was like...Rock Band 1 instruments? The wired ones that will break down in like a month? No thanks.

i've got a rock band 1 guitar and drums still going strong after two years of abuse.

the only problems are that the drum pedal breaks (RB2 one is reinforced with metal) and the OD switch in the guitar blows. and i don't even think they fixed the latter problem with RB2, their OD switches are all garbage.

I'm on my second guitar, second set of drums and my kick pedal is snapped in half. 🙁

I barely even used my drums, and I didn't play on Expert...

I got this game Saturday, and me and some friends beat the whole story mode in 1 day. All the songs are really easy for anyone who is experienced with higher difficulties on other games. For example a full difficulty in the beatles game probably ranks probably ranks like a solid on normal rock band. It's still fun to play though, despite being really easy a lot of the guitar and bass parts still sound good and aren't just mindless strumming or something boring like that.

I just used instruments from other games for this, specifically the guitars from rock band 2 and GH5, and the drums from RB2. The OD switch works great in both of my guitars, both of them are lot more reliable than the RB1 or GH3 guitars i've used.

My RB1 instruments doing fine as well. Play the drums all the time. People that break their pedal must be doing it wrong. My only complaint is the pads are rather loud, the rb2 drumset is definitely quieter.

I also love how people put down the "wired" RB1 instruments when the only instrument that went from wired to wireless is the drums, the guitars were wireless in the first place.

The pedal generally snaps when you play on expert - as there's a large amount of quick hits. People who break their pedal actually must be doing it right - keeping it pressed down between notes instead of letting it rise on its own every time to keep your leg from getting too tired. It's how you play an actual kit, but unfortunately, the plastic is not reinforced right in the middle and the pressure causes it to snap over time. If you haven't broken a pedal, you probably either play casually or on the lower difficulties with less bass notes.

The pads are made of plastic, and those will inevitably crack unless you are very gently tapping on them - particularly the yellow pad since it's hit much more frequently and aggressively than the rest.

Rock Band for the 360 had both wired guitars and drums. The PS3 version had the wireless guitar. The wireless guitar was released later for the 360. This is why it was a big deal.

I've used both RB2 and RB1 instruments, and the guitar upgrade is alright, but the drums are a huge improvement. I don't miss notes anymore, the bass pedal is great, and the wireless is a bonus. I predominately play expert drums, but I play expert guitar as well.

The cymbal expansion is very nerdy, and most newcomers don't like it. I can do without them, and if I could do it over, I'd just get the single cymbal expansion and just use the green crash.

I play heal up and I've broken the RB1 pedal and the RB2 "reinforced" pedal. I have since gone to an aftermarket pedal and have had no issues. I really don't think I'm "doing it wrong", but that pedal really is very cheapy and can break if you play a lot of expert drums.

I have had all the RB1 instruments and the RB2 instruments. The difference is pretty big to me. The guitar is much more reliable and the auto calibration feature is wonderful. The tilt sensor works better, but it's still nowhere near as good as the Les Paul I have. The drums are quieter and support cymbals, which make playing drums even more fun.

Buying the RB2 full band kit for $99 and just the standalone beatles game is the best way to go unless you really want the replica instruments.

I play on expert and keep the pedal mostly pressed down the entire time as you describe. Seems to me this would be less stressful on the pedal than someone playing incorrectly and slamming it all the way down every time. But whatever.

Oh, and FWIW, my neighbor has the wireless drums, and when I go over there to play I miss tons of notes on songs I have no problems at all on my wired drums. Maybe she has a bad set though, I dunno.

I place my kick pedal way out to the right of the stand that supports the drums. I can't deal with it being directly under the drums. It makes my leg cramp up. I like being able to stretch my leg way out. Partly it's because I'm tall and I have long legs.

And it doesn't slide away?
