What a fantastic game. I really really enjoyed this game. I'm still going to go through and try to beat the stuff that I wasn't able to, but man... this was phenomenal. I think I am going to try Mario 64 next (i missed the boat with pretty much every nintendo console) unless I should play a different mario game first?

I was basically referring to Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Paper Marios, Yoshi's island, etc.

Mario 64 was great for its time, but it's really old now, and it shows.

Mario Sunshine was...okay. It's Mario 64 with a utility pack.

The Paper Mario games are RPGs with some platforming elements. They are cool, but not really a "traditional" Mario game.

I found SMW2: Yoshi's Island to be...decent. IMHO, the egg tossing and having to grab whiny Baby Mario every time you get hit got annoying...fast.

so am I at the end of my mario goodness atm till galaxy 2 and the new super mario wii comes out?

I've played and beaten: SMB, SMB2, SMB3, Super Mario World, Mario Galaxy... I want more mario....

nope, all SNES games, what good ones are out for the VC? I have Super Mario World and Secret of Mana. that's it so far.

"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" should be #1 on your list. Then "Super Metroid".

Super Mario RPG is on my list of VC games to get as well as Zelda and super metroid. And will FF3 or Chrono trigger ever be available? seems like Square has been whoring that game out for years.

Super Mario Land for the original Game Boy was awesome. Super Mario Land 2 for the same system was equally awesome.

I think Im the only one who enjoyed Mario Sunshine MORE than Galaxy and 64.

dont forget the New Super Mario Bros for the DS. Awesome is an understatement. Mario Galaxy on the Wii was pretty cool too. Mario 64 is still super awesome and doesnt seem as aged as some may say

If you haven't played Super Mario RPG, you REALLY need to.

I love Super Mario RPG... but personally... I don't think it has aged well. I fired it up a few months ago and it just felt kinda rough. I dunno.

SMW2:Y'sI is my favorite game in the series. The SNES version is far superior but the extra bonus stages in the GBA version are incredible and must be played also.

As for the original SMW, getting everything will flag your save slot with "*96." If you have cleared every level and found every exit (many levels have more than one goal/exit) and still don't have *96, you may need to retrace your path on the maps screen. For example, I beat the stage in Choco Island and cleared the side path that takes you into Bowser's world for a bonus level (between both pipes at the bottom of the map) and, if you exit the pipe you came in, you don't get the point on your file until you got back in, walk through to the other pipe, go through it, and save again (have to beat another ghost house or castle to save in the original game; hold L+R to re-enter a defeated castle... even the manual told you that this wasn't possible!).

Specific advice:
The alternate exit to the stage mentioned in Choco Island has something to do with your timer and coins when entering pipes to proceed to the next area. IIRC, my timing was perfect if I entered and rapidly got everything in the first area and exited the same way I had practiced... I'd never remember it now though.

The Mysterious Forrest has quite a few alt exits, some of which clear paths you've already cleared from another level but in the reverse direction. Because the Ghost House doesn't have a red mark indicating multiple exits and may have all paths connected to it cleared, it is the most commonly missed.

One of the alt exits in Bowser's world involves running through tunnels to avoid being squished by the rising floor and then, once reaching safety, jumping on that fully-risen floor to get above the screen and walk to the left, past the entryway and over the wall where you will find a keyhole.

EVERY Star Road level has an alt exit... one just sends you back and the other is required to continue around the Star World. You must find them all ayway for a *96.

Have you played the real SMB2? Also known as The Lost Levels? If not I highly recommend it. It's on VC also.

Super Metroid is the epitome of gaming. It is a perfect, flawless game.

Super Mario World is one of the best Mario games I've ever played. It is fun for a casual gamer and very challenging to a hardcore gamer if you want to get all 96 exits.

This.

Do it now.

Do not wait, just go.

Its a great game, but thats taking it a bit far.

Actually, this sentiment is expressed quite often. I only fault it for the controls. Using L & R for diagonal shots is not intuitive and wastes buttons, forcing you to cycle through other items (as opposed to, say, toggling missiles or "Hold 'R' to fire missiles/lay super bomb"). The method from the GBA games was superior even though it was enforced due to having less buttons.
