Well, I've been on day 8 of my 17 day vacation in SF. It's been pure hell for me, pages takes ages to load.

Cousins GF decides to switch from Comcast HSI to save $10/month... $59 to $49. Had Hughes satellite internet installed a few days before I arrived.
I was told tech pretty much didn't spend time to properly test the equipment. Bolted dish on roof, point to satellite, put holes on the wall. connect the modem and left. Haven't called Hughes yet since they've been busy driving me around the Bay area to see places.

Well guess what we see, an AT&T utility box on the side of the street (50 feet away). Will be switching to naked DSL ASAP. Trial period with Hughes ends in mid of Feb when I'll be back in Chicago and the cold winter weather that's included.

My home connection, it works for me and costs $55 a month. I'm supposed to be getting 100 down but I guess 94.6 is fast enough. My providor actually offers 1000 Mbit down (100 Mbit up) which they claim is the fastest in the US but I don't feel like paying $200 a month just for bragging rights.

I'm happy enough with it. I could get 30mb down if I upgraded to Broadband extreme for about the same price, but I've been too lazy to order it.

You should really know the difference by know intuitively, it's darn easy.

This is on the Time Warner 10Mb/s plan. Great for streaming videos, which is the only thing I do with my internet anyway.
 
Speedtest.net always seemed more like a benchmark of Speedtest's own servers than your own Internet connection.. The results vary wildly between runs and between test servers..

 


This is a best case scenario with a local host though...i don't get nearly as good results from elsewhere.
