Beat Gradius III last night

That game is awesome. Also damn hard. I beat it with one life and took about 3 hits to my shield the entire game. I knew if I ever beat the game it would have to be without dying even one time. Had 9 lives at the end and now I have it saved (virtual console) in hard mode. I can't even imagine beating it in hard mode!

Anyone else play this legend of a game recently? The music is the shit!
 
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT GAME. the most played game for my ps2 is GRADIUS. And congrates on beating it, it is hard as hell. And i know want you mean, if you die one time, i just start over. I mean you screwed, unless you capture all you options and have the power ups set on missiles to save your ass with some fancy foot work.

Now try Ikaruga that game is so cool but starts out on hell level from the get go.
 
I think I played this game before.. is this the one where you can move and attack at the same time? There's this purple hair devil girl who follows you around. I can't even remember the storyline anymore but I remember it was good up to a point. Then it got sort of repetitive because the same crap happened in every town you went to. There was this boss I could not beat.. I think it was a giant head. It was fun for a while though.

I need more info, what system(s) what this on? Sounds cool. I love a good shooter. Kinda sick of all the same ole' FPS we have now. Its like they are all the same. I seem to eventually get bored (usually before I finish it) and go back to playing WoW (re rolling on a new server and making new friends)

Gradius III was originally released in the arcades, then ported to SNES. More recently it was released on the Playstation 2 as part of the Gradius III and IV bundle. It is also part of the Gradius Collection for PSP.
 
That game is killer.

You seriously beat it? That's fucking amazing. No, really. I don't think I've ever got past the third level. You die and then start all over with no upgrades or anything. You beat it and didn't cheat? F'ing props, man. :thumbsup:😀

Yeah, it's definitely tough shit! I knew that if I died once, I would be screwed so I made sure...not to! I found it's best to get used to two speeds, forward double-shot/duel lasers, hawk hind, two options on either side, small shield and full barrier. The small mode shield lets you squeeze into small openings in the massive amount of bullets that will try to fly up your ass. 🙂 I swear that game kept having me think it was almost over, only to give me a new level of ridiculousness! One part makes you fight 4 bosses in a row!

I haven't made it past the volcano level without cheating.

"up, up, down, down, L, R, L, R, B, A, start" once per level and I can usually beat it, though...

I found it to be a lot easier after 3 or four speedups, but then I beat it many times on easy before moving on to beat it on the harder difficulty levels, so I knew the maps very well. I always use the reduce shield, and I only get hit on the hardest difficulty level. Of course i haven't played it in years, but I love that game, best of the series I think.

The GBA gradius galaxies was good too though.

edit: at the title screen press X repeatedly for extra credits.
