Griese will be the man.

Man, they were smoking some crack in that article.

Grossman has struggled ever since February's Super Bowl, when he threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Uh, he's been struggling a lot longer then that.

Now in his fifth pro season, Grossman has been inconsistent as Chicago's starter, but he did get the team to the Super Bowl last season.

No he didn't.

exactly! he has been struggling at least the last half of last season.

and it was the defense that got them to the superbowl!

Just great. First we get McNabb taking off the brace and turning into Joe Montana now we'll get Griese, returning home, rising like the Phoenix, and manhandling the Lions.

Believe it or not, if you can get Vick to QB for the Bears, you'll have a Superbowl ring.

Brian Griese is a pretty good QB. When he was with the Broncos, he didn't make the dumb mistakes that Jake Plummer made later on. I remember the game in which he beat the Raiders with busted shoulder. I wish him the best.

i can't wait for the bears to smoke the Lions and Vikings in the next few weeks. People will praise greasy as the savior of the team even though a 10 year old QB could beat those teams, then when he throws a couple INT's in the Greenbay game, the idiot fans will call for Orton. Complete jackasses.

Looking toward the future, today's Red Eye speculated (I daresay) on potential candidates for next year's starter, assuming it isn't Grossman/Griese/Orton:

Derek Anderson (Browns)
Brian Brohm (Louisville)
Donovan McNabb (Eagles)
Jake Plummer (retired but under contract to Buccaneers)
Daunte Culpepper (Raiders)
Josh McCown (Raiders)
Billy Volek (Chargers)
Chad Pennington (Jets)
Tony Romo (Cowboys)
Chris Simms (Buccaneers)

Thoughts? Feedback? Please discuss.

There's no way Dallas would let Romo out of their grasp. Especially if he takes them to the big game this year.

Plus the Bears have one of the cheapest management offices of any large market team. They won't give anyone heafty contracts to draw in superstar players.

Pennington could actually be a good fit. He's not flashy, but he's smart and reliable. He'll probably be looking to get out of NY given all of the QB controversy that has gone on over there.

I said this once and I'll say it again. Wait for Vick to get out of jail, then hire him. Probably will be the smartest things the Bears could do. Now, just to keep him from illegal bears fighting.

Isn't McNabb under contract for another 20 years and half a billion dollars?

Seconded on Romo. Just because Jerry didn't give him a huge contract last year doesn't mean he won't this year. In fact, I predict about 2-3 more games like the one's he has been having and Jerry will lock him up before he gets too expensive. Each game he wins his salary is going up $250k ish.

No way on getting Romo (first and foremost)... cowboys are big spenders and will not let him go. Any dreams of Romo need to stop right now.

If the bears miss the playoffs, then you might have a chance to get Brohm. I like that option by the way, he's a sound and tough QB... the team will respect him.

Derek Anderson... maybe bring him into camp but if he wins the starting job, the GM didn't do enough to get some real ability at QB into camp.

McNabb... will see how the season goes... if he plays well, he stays in Phi. If he tanks, do you really want him? I mean, he is not that accurate a passer.

Plummer... maybe.

Culpepper... see McNabb but he will be available whether he plays well or not.

McCown... maybe available but Raiders will want to keep either him or Daunte as backup and I'm elaning towards the Raiders wanting to keep McCown.

Billy Volek... What?! He's no Matt Schaub and even Matt Schaub may turn out to be 'no Matt Schaub' meaning let's evaluate Matt's performance at the end of the year... he had a couple good games but let's see the full 16+ game season and then discuss. But Volek is not a starting QB... no upgrade over current Bears QB's.

Pennington... I literally probably have a stronger arm than Pennington at this point. His arm strength is so weak that it severely limits the playbook. I cringe every time he throws an out route, especially to wide side of the field... it looks like it could get picked and returned for six almost every time.

Simms... he and Brohm are the best ideas. Simms is tough and pretty solid at QB... the bucs porous offensive line keeps any QB looking pretty bad.

The main thing I want to ask bears fans... why do you guys trade Thomas Jones and cut Tank??!! You traded the wrong RB and Tank maybe had his tussles with the law but if he allowed to play football why not keep him. Dallas picked up a great DT for cheap.

And, they can just franchise him and work out a contract in the off season.

I don't even think that will happen. Jerry will load him up with money to keep him happy, as well he should.
