Bear was just wandering around, not threatening anyone, and they shot it? It's a freaking hospital. They have anesthetics and tranquilizers there. No reason the bear should have been shot.

True, but who at the hospital (including the officers that were there) would actually apply the tranq/anesthetics? It's almost impossible to defend the bear, even though the course of action taken might seem extreme. Ultimately, the officers made the decision they made and they can't be faulted for that.

I agree human safety is the #1 priority (see above post). I was just considering other options, I'm sure the bear could've been disabled with a few gunshots, rather than going to the full extent (killing it).

THen you'd be looking at cruelty to the animal. You can't wound something on purpose, ever. Hunters code.
Not to mention the small detail of then having to deal with a wounded, pissed off bear.

Wounding the bear in an effort to disable it would immediately put everyone in the general vicinity at great risk. You do not want a wounded and enraged bear on the loose looking for something to swat.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that a few shots might keep the bear on the ground. Rather than having it run around pissed off. :p

Jeez some of you people need to stop being such babies about an animal dying. It happens every day. Hunters are out killing animals all the time. Squirells are being run over every minute, and birds are flying into skyscraper windows and breaking their necks.

The officers did what anyone would do when faced with a 300lb bear in the same room as you. You don't have time for some orderly to go get something to sedate it while you and the bear share a beer.

They shot it and made it quick, now if they had tied it up sedated it, and dressed it up in womens clothing, that would be different

Errrr, no. A bear is probably one of last animals you would want to shoot and not kill.

What is interesting is that it was probably roaming around the hospital for some time and did not harm anyone. Some bears are like that, they wont harm anyone till you actually provoke them. They locked him up, goooood! They should have called the wildlife department instead of shooting it like dumbasses. The wildlife department (or whatever they are called) would have taken the animal without any problems whatsoever. Looks like the rent a cop had too many donuts

They should have just had some med students taunt the bear and get it to run after them back outside.
