Beach weekend, what to bring for drinks?

Rum is always a solid choice, lots of things you can do with it.

I'd suggest getting vanilla and/or coconut rum and mixing it with Dr. Pepper.

-1 can frozen limeaide (concentrate)
-light rum
-light beer
-sparkling water

Dump limeaide into pitcher, use empty can to measure out the portion of rum. Add a few light beers and then top off with sparkling water to taste.

My girlfriend showed me this drink, which I made and took with on a trip rafting down the Delaware river. Tastes amazing and doesn't taste alcoholic; naturally we were plastered.

He said he was looking for something different. If I was going, I'd drink beer and/or Jack & Cokes all weekend.

When I drink, that is my main mixture, but something like rum and coke.

My wife does not drink too much, so I am going to ask her about some of the suggestions posted here.

Whiskey-based honey liqueurs are the big new thing. Jack Daniels has Tennessee Honey, Wild Turkey has American Honey, Seagram's 7 has Dark Honey, Bushmill's has a honey whiskey... It's gotten a little out of hand. I will say, I had a bottle of the Wild Turkey American Honey, and it's really easy drinking, although super syrupy. You basically feel like you're drinking a thin honey. That's the only time I can recall finishing a fifth of anything on my own... and I wasn't even hung over the next day, which was a huge shock given how sugary it was. But again, it's basically just like drinking honey, which is fine in certain circumstances, but I think would be a horribly unpleasant experience on a nice day at the beach, so you probably should pass on that.

Crisp and refreshing - Citrus vodka, diet 7up & squeeze of lime

Dark & Stormy - Dark Rum (Goslings Blk Seal) & Ginger Beer & half lime squeezed over ice (You can sub Sailor Jerry but avoid Meyers)

Greyhounds - Vodka & grapefruit - make it a salty dog by riming glass with salt

Summer Shandy beer by Leinenkugel - the one with berry in it is good too

My easy to make, no blender needed, favorite beach drink: Pina Colada

Put in large pitcher

1 big can of Dole's pineapple juice (46 oz IIRC)

1 can of coco Lopez coconut cream (15 oz)

As much rum as you like. (You can leave the rum out if someone doesn't drink alcohol. The rumless pina colada makes a refreshing drink kids really like. Just add the rum to your individual glass when pouring in your glass with the ice.)

Shake or stir and leave pitcher in fridge.

Put ice cubes in glass and pour in pina colada.

Personally I can't stand mixed cocktail sweet drinks. If I wre planning a drinking weekend, I'd get a good rum like flor de cana 7 year or higher. Or a good tequila like milagro anejo. Good liquor is meant to be drunk with ice only. When you get cheap liquor, then soda etc... etc... is needed to mask the flavor.

I agree with you about a fine liquor (and the two you mentioned are delicious), but part of the point of drinking at the beach is to feel refreshed. There's a lot of sand and salt and it can make you thirsty very quickly, especially if you're doing anything active. If you're drinking straight rum or tequila to quench your thirst, you're doing it wrong. You need a selection of drinks that you can drink a fair amount of without getting completely plastered. That's the beauty of mixed drinks; they're cold and refreshing in addition to having a nice alcohol kick.

Mojitos are another refreshing drink that springs to mind, but they're a bit of a pain in the ass to make and if you're making a lot of them, you'll need to get a shitload of limes and mint, which seems a bit overkill for some basic beach drinking.

You don't want to that at the beach, I mean straight booze on ice cubes.

With the sun, heat and wind, you'll dehydrate quickly and the alcohol is a diuretic and only accelerates that (as well as get sh1t faced too quickly).

Normally I don't care for excessively sweet drinks. But when I'm at the beach I'm in the water. In salt water. I like a pina colada or coke/bourbon on ice to wash away the salt water in my mouth.

In any case, your ice will melt fairly quickly so the drink is not a sweet as you'd think.
