INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Prob is when i insert my system disk...my keyborad is locked up so i cant press enter!

Which BIOS version are you running? Did you just flash your BIOS? It sounds like during the post that it is finding a difference in what it expects to find and what it actually detects. Also, do you get the error message before or after the drives are detected? Don't know if this helps or not but I tried.

I've had the same problem!

And fixed it!

It is all to do with the PCI bus divider setting - as you probably know the PCI bus needs to run at 33MHz to meet the required standard. Some deviced can be overclocked but not all.

What I didn't realise initially was that the IDE controllers run via this bus setting. When I tried to put the FSB up to 100MHz on my Celeron 400 I didn't realise that the PCI bus divider needed to be altered as well. I left it at 1/2 and got the same error as you - as far as I can tell the motherboard was confused by the speed setting.

Putting the divider to 1/3 put me back to 33MHz on the PCI bus and all was fine - unfortunately my Seagate drive didn't like running at 50MHz and trashed itself!

Hope this helps.

Hi AceT

How do i set the pci divider to 1/3?

I have a Maxtor20 gig 7200rpm drive and an old ATI all in wonder 8meg pro card.

Im running a 600e at 800mhz solid as a rock. darn thing is that it just stared doing it all by iself...the cotten picker was runnin fine and then POOF! that stupid screen...

Can ya help a newbie out and tell me how to fix this PCI divider thing please?

Thanks
scott

If AceT is correct you will have to go to the "CPU Soft Menu" in the BIOS setup and change the Ext. Clock setting tp 133MHz 1/4 setting. This will set your pci bus to 1/4 the FSB or 33MHz. I hope this is your problem as it is a simple thing to fix. I fhtis doesn't work try flashing the BIOS with the latest version from http://www.abit-usa.com and hopefully that will do the trick.

Hang on... what speed are you running the FSB at?

I'm not fully up to date with the 600e chips - is that running at 100MHz or 133MHz standard?

Assuming it is 100MHz and you are pushing the FSB up higher then the PCI divider is the solution - at least it was for me.

What was the divider on and what is it on now? It is in the SoftMenu next to the AGP setting.
