When you don't do that, it could be worse. I remember a while back seeing a video of someone driving an E92 M3 pretty fast into fairly deep floodwater, and hydrolocking the engine. Ouch.

Strange... That water is not even deep...

In Toronto right now they are just recovering from the worst flooding in I have no idea how long.. There is a pic from somewhere under an overpass, a Ferrari 599 sitting in about 3-4 feet of water. It's totaled for sure.

There is widespread damage there....

LOL thought the same thing after spotting the phrase "prized ferrari california"

That guy is a PR machine also
“I guess that’s what insurance companies are for. But the bottom line was, I had a case to get to,” he said. “You can’t let the client down, no matter what personal exigencies you might have."

[...] “I don’t want to sound cavalier, but at the end of the day you’ve got to see the humour in it and not sweat the small stuff. And it really is all small stuff,” he said. “Nobody’s dying, nobody’s sick. The car gets fixed up and there’s insurance for that. I made it for my case and succeeded on my client’s behalf.”

I hydrolocked my corvette in a puddle once. Fairly heavy rain, deep puddle and I was trying to get to the emergency room where my girlfriend was. Didn't pay enough attention to the depth.

Doesn't have to be real deep. All you have to do is hit it so it sloshes up into your air intake, and you can hydro-lock your engine.

A buddy of mine, with an RX-8, did it in a foot deep water. He got lucky, and got his insurance company to replace the engine for him. :whiste:
