Which only brings back my original reply, why allow what goes on overseas to set the bar? As far as those who you claim say they are "taxed to death," I think you're seeing their stance as you wish to see it. I'm sorry to say, but a lot of those people believe a mandatory income tax, at any percentage, is wrong, that the idea is contradictory to, and an an attack upon, their rights. Now, I'm sure you disagree, as most here probably do as well. But as long as we enforce such a system, and with force, then we have to deal with those who will protest against it, and with the manners in which they choose to deal with it. We have to understand that in situations such as this, we are the oppressors. You may not see it that way, but they do, and that's what is relevant.

Because the statement "taxed to death" is simply a gross inaccuracy. It's fine if they think it is wrong, but make a reasoned argument. It helps no one to make such wild accusations. While I wouldn't ordinarily have concern for such statements, and might even make silly statements myself from time to time ("It took me forever to get to work today."), I think these people actually believe it. Like I said, persecution complex. The manner in which these people have chosen to deal with being taxed is simply disingenuous. There's a very subtle but real difference between, "I feel I am being unfairly taxed" and "The government is taxing me to death." One might possibly lead to logical discussion, the other will not.

That's why I said, "I think you're seeing their stance as you wish to see it," regarding your bringing up those who say they are "taxed to death." You are making their argument for them, then saying how silly it is.

The reason I put it in quotation marks is because that's what they actually say. It's hyperbole sure, but if they don't believe in the validity of it, they shouldn't say it.
