That's one ugly looking sales chart for BB...

Notice how the Droid 1 release killed BB sales.

Used a Tour the other day, if I had to I could use it as my primary phone, but only if there was nothing else to buy, I'd rather have an entry level Android phone...

Thats just brutal. Blackberry needs to step up their game. Fast. The corporate world isn't going to sustain them forever as Android, Apple, and Microsoft continue to leech it away.

Oh shit, exactly one year later Motorola is killing RIM.
I find it amusing so many people used to talk shit about Motorola phone quality, when they were the only ones serious about tough phones and they were the first ones to make a sleek, metal Android phone.

My mom was telling me all the lawyers at her firm begged the IT department to give them iPhones when they first came out. And each new generation they beg even harder.
RIM better do something awesome soon. They got too complacent being the number one business supplier and they never felt like keeping their game up. Now they are getting destroyed for it.

EDIT:
Nokia will be OK so long as the rest of the world doesnt discover Android. When that happens they better have something seriously competitive, or just make the damn jump to Android like they should have 2 years ago.

RIMM just aquired TAT to try and keep them from sinking completely.

That news has already been posted. The problem is that it'll take a minimum of 6 months before we see any results and that's a highly optimistic time frame. More likely it'll take 12-18 months. You have to assess user needs, design a product, make design changes/concessions, test it for flaws, and finally release it. Not a quick task.

And remember the Playbook QNX's interface? Not coming to BB's without dual core CPU's according to RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis. The issue is the QNX interface is too power hungry. That doesn't bode well for BB's from a battery standpoint. Especially when BB is late to the party with a modern touch interface. Any modern mobile OS needs to have good power management.

I still think Nokia is in a worse position than RIM though. RIM still has many of its corporate users tied into their backend software.

I dunno that I've seen much practical out of TAT outside of the orig Android interface. They've got some cool stuff, but even for me, what I've seen from them lately is pretty useless.

Also, keep in mind that Verizon blew out the doors with Android's release on their network, TMobile had Android first, but Verizon really gave the Android OS it's big break.

RIM is far from toast, but they need to step it up...

the problem is that verizon is really slow to get new bb phones. i think all their bb phone are bb5 which is not competitive with android and ios. if verizon had torch or a newer bb phone that would helpp bb sales a lot. i see a lot of people where i live with bold and torch so i dont think they are dead yet

but I'd really like to see AT&T's numbers of RIM as I'm sure there are more Blackberry users on ATT since they are usually business people and would more likely travel internationally

Here's the Lazardis interview that created a bit of buzz. http://kara.allthingsd.com/20101213...rview-video-of-rims-mike-lazaridis/?mod=tweet

He dodged questions about how much the Playbook would cost, he says BB invented the smartphone, he claims that BB's Playbook will allow people to have "phones" again and use the Playbook to do sophisticated tasks on, he says the RIM will kick ass because they'll have dual core phones with QNX on them (anyone want to bet that iOS and Android phones will show up with dual cores before BB?), that BB isn't focusing on "consumer" phones, and when Mossberg ans Swisher point out the commercials advertising to consumers he begs off...

LOL, BB had awesome phones but they don't have the vision to resume the lead in the US or developed markets. They'll continue to do well in corporate environments and in less developed markets, but with cheap Android devices coming and already out there, RIM has some serious problems coming up real soon...

i think they will doo just fine, they have enough money and history to ride out the redux they are going for i think. besides, they are just playing the same catch up game that microsoft is. i think both of them will end up getting decent product to compete with.

the owner here loves his storm (i hate it), all the other managers got droids (and always ask me to help them "fix it") and i roll OG winmo 6.1 lol. eventually im sure ill have to go droid, but im holding out still. the owner already told me he wont switch.
