bball folks: question about the hop step and traveling

So say you're dribbling and you do a hop step ... after the hop and you land, can you do a pump fake or do you have to go up after landing? Some people are saying if you don't go straight up after landing it's a travel?

Do you still have a choice of a pivot foot? If you don't leave the pivot foot, you should still be fine.

Unless this is one of those legal travelling moves like a layup.

It's called a "Jump Stop" if I remember correctly. And as long as you do indeed come to a complete stop and don't shuffle your feet or anything, I believe you're in the clear.

yep, that's what I meant, the jump stop ... I thought you can pump fake after the jump stop but some people on the court last said you can't.
I know you can't pivot after a jump stop, just don't know if I can fake then shoot ...

I don't think you can pump fake after the jump stop. It's probably legal in the NBA, though. Then again...so is smoking crack...

Well, technically you would have to land on two feet at the same time, not 1 and then 2.

If you do a jump stop (two feet landing at the same time), you can still pump fake and choose a pivot foot. I used this move often, and have seen this move used to average 22 points a game. It's NOT travelling if done correctly.

Those guys who call it travel = haters 😀

on a jump stop, if your feet come down together and don't shuffle it's not a travel and you have a pivot foot.

yeah, landing on both feet at the same time is a must but I didn't know you can still pivot.
I've done hop step, pump fake many times, and wasn't called on it till last night; maybe it was cause the game was tied and that was the winning shot? 🙂
