Why do you say the t7k250 is hot? Storagereview had a good review comparing all the 250GB drives. THe hitachi was the fastest - the samsung the slowest. Yes samsung was the coolest/quietest but preliminary results show that the hitachi is the most reliable (storagereview reliability database). So it is the fastest and most reliable of the 250GB drives...

Yes. But that doesn't mean you won't have to fight for it.

Regardless I haven't owned a hard drive in the past ten years for more than a year at a time anyways -- so its not a big deal.

Good deal on a SILENT hard drive, been running this for a few months now, really happy with it.

I ordered on-line, went to pick it up and specifically asked about the warranty. I left without the drive when the manager told me he wasn't responsible for a Web misprint. YMMV!

Im sorry but im not a big fan of their reviews.

Toms may not be loved by some around here but their storage comparisons are quite good.

I did not highlight the drives for comparison so please make sure your looking at the correct drives.

Average Read Transfer Performance

Average Write Tranfer Performance

Max Temperature

You are comparing the 400GB model of the segate which has higher density to platter. Also it is a bit more expensive. Last but least the hitachi has better (though slight) seek time than the competition. In addition MAX temp is not the same as avg temp.

To be honest most of these drives have simular performance and therefore i would use reliablity as my first critera (though noise is another good one). This is not to say the hitachi is a more reliable drive. I'm actually quite unsure how well segate's ata drives hold up (the scsi versions are fairly reliable but cost 4x).

Dont pay attention to the highlighted drives. I didnt use that function thats just what they happened to be on. We were comparing the samsung that you said sucked remmeber.

Max temperature is not the same as average but in my opinion is much more important.

I didn't say the samsung sucked. I said the hitachi was faster and so far has proven more reliable. All the 250GB drives are fairly close. The samsung is my second choice.

Looks like Office Depot has this same deal this week. If you can find a $20 off $100 coupon, this would be even hotter!

I'd be in on this if there is a coupon around.

Yes the samsung has the worse overall performance according to that review (which I believe is highly respected). However, the samsung has other positive qualities. I have two samsungs (not 160s - the previous model). I also have a desktar - the model that was famous for failing - only mine hasn't failed yet. And I have a 10 year old conner scsi drive (that runs 24/7). Alas it is only 1 gb.

Just got back from BB. This is a one year warranty drive as per the counter tag and box. It's a lot of storage for bucks, but compared to a three or five year drive warranty it's somewhat lame.

The OEM version of this drive should be similar in price. Not to mention it's 3 year warranty.

I have purchased an OEM model awhile back. for $118 with free shipping.

Given tax and what not from Best buy. The $$ damage is not that much different.
Would much rather purchase the OEM to get the 3 year warranty.

What doesn't make sense is, Retail is usually sold for a higher price. So why doesn't it come with the 3 year warranty ?

I would like to hear that from best buy. In the mean time I bought TWO of these drives today at my local store, and it was not just because of a measly $15 price break (as compared to other online vendors), IT WAS BECAUSE of the three year warranty in the online ad. I contacted best buy through the form on the website, it was too late to call by the time I saw the "Extend your warranty" card in the box. I was f*k'n MAD. Maybe everyone who bought one should cache the source code of the page, just in case? I know I have a printout of where it is stated, only because when I called the store to verify the price, the guy told me that the price was wrong and that "he was looking at the site I was and it didnt say that". He said it was $199! I told OK, Ill just order it for store pickup, so I did, and I got it at the $99 price. The printout of the order confirmation has the warranty info ON it. I am going to get my warranty damnit!

Everyone who bought this drive expecting a three year warranty needs to call Western Digital and let them know of Best Buys refusal to honor their advertisment. When I spoke today with two seperate Best Buy reps, they were EXTREMELY rude regarding the warranty, and DIRECTLY BLAMED WESTERN DIGITAL for providing BEST BUY with incorrect info, which I do NOT beleive for one second.

The woman I spoke with ALSO called me A LIAR TO MY FACE because in reaction to my previous email BB.com has changed to product page to reflect the correct warranty, so she could not see what I was talking about, and she swore that "they" ( guess she meant the online support techs?) CANNOT change info on the site (BULLSH*T).

BTW GOOGLE now has a cache of the page and it contains the 3 year screw up, So I contacted WD where the tech transfered me to a supervisor, and gave them the URL to this forum and the cache. They didnt seem to happy about Best Buy blaming them and telling me to take it up with WD, who has no hand in this. Hell one of the Best Buy reps even SWORE that he was on the WD website while I was on the phone with him, and that it said 3 years. I told him he was MISTAKEN! Best buy just lost me as a customer FOREVER, especially after their techs called ME a liar, THEN several times LIED TO ME?! Assholes.

Regarding Best Buy honoring a misprint... I'm not sure what you guys should be expecting. They have never honored misprints in the past.
