baybus, rheostat...hard to do?

I'll have 5 fans ( 4 80s and a 120 ) in my PC when I get done ,not counting my PS, Gorb or Sorb.. I'm not quite sure what a rheostat is for but from what I have seen it's so you can turn down the RPM of the fans, right? For noise and such..

Where would I find a good one.. I have seen them but don't know what I'm looking for at all.. Or is a baybus better? Are they kind of the same?

A rheostat setup would let you control rpm's of fan through practically an infinite number of speeds.

a baybus is usually just a switch that controls turning the fan on and off. sometimes you can get them in 7v/off/12v models that let you run the fans either full or essentially half power, which is basically like lowering the rpms

I build my own baybus following a guide on virtual-hidout.net

it's not the easiest thing, but if you're good with electronics and stuff, it's not too difficult and a fun project

as far as buying them , you could check out this link. they sell both

I used the guides at V-H also to build a baybus and a rheobus. I left out the LED's which made things easier. It's pretty simple to, just need a soldering iron, and as sohcrates said, its fun. Took about 30 mins to put each of them together.

So a baybus doesn't handle the watts like a rheostat/rheobus does... I might get me a rheostat then just to be safe on the watts issue..

Thanks

So making one just reqiures some time and a soldering iron. Maybe I'll check that out as well... I was wondering if the knobs will fit behind the door on my cheiftec case, I don't remember just how much room is behind there..

I just bought a dual voltage baybus from FrozenCPU as PCMod had them but they were on back order. They looked exactly the same and the specs were the same too plus it was a few bucks cheaper.

If you can pick up the electrical knowledge quickly.. it sounds as if you have none.. I would recommend building your own.. it's cheaper and more fun.. plus you can customize it anyway you want.. But you have to have knowledge of what you are doing before you go venturing into volts, watts, and amps... I mean.. any idiot can make a switch to turn a fan on and off.. I put a switch on my water pump to shut the pump off when i turn my machine off.. it's even illuminated! lol... Playing with AC power is a bit more tricky and risky then playing with DC...

I hope you are not insinuating that I am a noob when it comes to electricity. I could probably make then if I tried.. The real problem is time.. I have a wife, 2 kids under 3 years old, a full time job and I go to school. I have a house to take care of and I also need to squeeze in some time for CS. So the problem is finding a "few hours" so I can do it myself. 🙁

I would like to try and do my own little mods and what not but I just can't at the time so I went the easy way. Besides it was only $23. 😉

Oh honest to God.. I don't care if you are the president... you have an hour a day.. or whatever to put into making something of the sort.. but at 23 bux.. you really can't beat that.. A rheobus or what?

I hate to sound rude but just how would you know how much time I have. I take it you have no kids and know nothing about taking care of one. I guess if I just sat them down in front of the TV all day I might find some time but since I don't I seriously don't have time.

Hey, how about you come watch them while I build a fanbus.

Anyways, here is what I bought..baybus at Frozen CPU
