im thinking about building a baybus for my new computer, and i saw a kit at caseetc.com costing $45... does anyone know an estimated cost to how much these parts would cost if you just looked for them at home depot/radio shack/etc? thx

I went to radio shack tonight, spent ~$15 to build one for two fans. I only put the two in there cuz I wanted to make sure I could do it right. Bought a big enough "project box" [as radio shack calls it] to add four more. Do yourself a favor and build one. It's a lot of fun, and you can watch your kitties light up when they find out that soldering iron is HOT!

ooh 15 is a lot better than 45. thanks :) so they have everything you need at radio shack?

also, is it possible to use 2 fans and combine them for 1 connection? cuz im planning (dreaming haha) of having a total of 6 fans connected to a dual voltage baybus...but ive only seen tutorial/guides on them with 4 connections...

I see no reason why you can't make a 6 switch baybus...just extend the wiring methods used for the other four to the last 2. Also I don't know for sure but I don't believe that the voltage to CFM relationship is linear. For instance a lot of fans won't even start up at 5 volts, but if it were a linear relationship then you should have 5/12 of the 12 volt CFM. If I had to venture a guess I would say that at 7 volts a 83 CFM fan would probably put out aroun 40 CFM. Like I said I don't know for sure though. I think it also depends a lot on the fan.

thats what i was thinking too that the cfm/voltage relationship wasnt linear...

the reason i was thinking of just a 4 switch one in my 1030b (its coming yay!) was that i was thinking of 2 92mm fans at the bottom (will they fit? maybe i can sand down the edges of the fans or something if they dont), the 80mm fan on top of that for the drive bay, the 2 80mm fans on the back, and one at the top... the 2 92mm fans on the bottom front would be controled by one switch, since they're next to each other yunno (same iwth teh 2 back fans)...

anyway, yea thats my plan, and if everything goes through (i dont run out of money) thats what i'll be doing... that would be my dream pc ahhhh =]
