Years before Battlestar Galactica, Edward James Olmos was offered the captain's chair for Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was involved with Miami Vice/stage work at the time, so turned it down. The role of Capt. Picard was then given to Patrick Stewart.

Patrick had to wear a hair piece when meeting with show executives because there was fear that a bald captain would not be accepted. The execs gave Stewart the job- on the condition that he did not wear "that ridiculous hair piece."

Enjoy the new Star Trek movie 🙂

well it worked out well for both of them (and us) 😀

Yeah.

Olmos would have made it a much darker/grittier series IMO. He did great in BSG, but I think TNG was too "pristine" for him.

I miss TNG 🙁

Maybe after this movie they'll bring back a Star Trek show that doesn't suck as much as the rest have since TNG went off the air.

I agree.

I wonder how BSG would be if Picard was Admiral Adama.....

I think Adama has so far been the most awesome space Admiral I've seen in any space series/canon.

However, Adama is a rather dramatic character, and BSG was a pretty dramatic series. The Star Trek series have always been too calm/sterile for me. Picard's demeanor wouldn't have "fit" in with BSG.

Well, since the preview for the movie doesn't feel like Star Trek to me, I wouldn't hold out much hope.
