The first 2 seasons are excellent scifi and writing in general. The last couple of seasons drag a bit, but are still very watchable. (If you don't like it after the pilot and the first 2 episodes, just stop there, those really do a good job of setting up the entire plot and give a good feel for humanity's desperation and Cylon behavior.)
 
I never watched it when it was on but binge watched it on DVD. Absolutely loved this series and I highly recommend it. If you liked the original you'll love this one even more. It is well written, well acted and just a great series. I thought the first three seasons were the best. It kind of goes downhill in the later seasons though.
