Battlefield 4 trailer

Game looks amazing, but why release it for current gen right before next gen comes out? I always pre-order BF games, but I can see not buying this since I won't even be turning my 360 on after November.
I'd imagine this'll come out for next gen as well, but who would spend $60 a month before spending another $60 to get it on the next gen systems?

Because Battlefield 5 or Battlefield 4 HD will be a launch title with next gen. Why not sell it twice? That's how it works today.

Serious question? Same people who like spending money on the same game every 6 months. Eg same people who would buy this kind of game in the first place.

Oh I like FPS, just generally anything that has a number after it greater than 2 or sells in the millions is pretty much guaranteed to suck.

So the only good FPS are the ones that 15 players buy and are obscure, buggy garbage? Yep, I bet you love Arma 2. And the fact that these games sell in the millions shows plenty of people think they don't suck.

You sure are ornery.

I'm saying as someone who likes this genre and intends to buy a next gen system as soon as its available, I'm finding it tough to justify buying the current gen version of this game with a guaranteed year of map support coming behind it that I'll never touch if I've moved onto the next gen version. The vast majority I would imagine would feel this way, unless they have zero intention of moving onto the new consoles in the 6-12 months following.

I guess this is how all console transitions go, but it just feels real odd. You're right there though, milking the current gen people I guess, if they intend to stay. As long as the game isn't limited on next gen because of current's limitations, ie. player count.

TBH it makes perfect sense to release it on current and next gen. millions more people are willing to spend 60$ on a game vs 60$ + 400$ for a new console

but the fear that its held back is there, the PS3 and Xbox struggle with 24 player maps now

BF2 did the same thing though. They released it on Xbox360 AND original Xbox (as well as PC ofc). They are just trying to capture as much of the market as possible. I do expect people who are going to upgrade to the next gen will skip the current gen release, but those who don't plan on it for awhile might pick it up. I wouldn't be surprised if the new CoD does the same thing if the consoles come out around the same time as the game.

BF2 alleviated this by having different maps and different servers. The Xbox version was vastly different from the Xbox 360 version IIRC. My friend had both for some reason.
