Origin freebies have been pretty solid. I got Dead Space and Plants vs. Zombies for free a while back, and BF3 is a pretty awesome game to get on the house.

I hope they eventually give away Crysis. I already have it on DVD, but I'd love to have the digital version of it for convenience.

That's because there's less than 2000 people playing it, guess EA wants more activity. :p

I got the Dead Space game freebie, only problem is I can't find any way to bind keys since I'm left-handed.

Thanks for the link. Telling everyone I know.

...but the least fun I ever had with Bad Company 2 was more fun than the most fun I ever had with BF3. Just saying.

Is no one else getting the "Hang on a second" error? Been trying for a few hours now.

It's nice that vanilla BF3 is going to remain well-populated because of deals like this.

Keeps giving me an error when trying to get it.

I tried it by clicking on Facebook to sign in and it didn't work. So I signed up for Origin and it started downloading.

So does anyone know if once you download it, can you re-install Windows 7 later and still get to keep it or do you lose Battlefield 3 once you format your drive?

The game is bound to your Origin account, like Steam, so you should always have access to it.

Cool. Well I played with a slow computer (GeForce 8800GS, 2GB RAM, 2.8 GHz dual-core AMD Athlon X2 5400+) and it was laggy as crap trying to play "instant match". Then I pushed the ESC button and was kicked by Punkbuster then I got a Directx error saying my video card didn't have enough memory.

Whatever. I liked Battlefield 2 but BF3 would take me some time to get used to. Hope I'll catch more free games on Origin though. I still want to buy a quad-core for the mobo and RAM I bought lately.

As with all Punkbuster games, you need to go to their site and download the client to get the latest update to not get kicked. Also use the server browser!

Wow the free weekend is really boosting the player base. 59k players on at 7:30am? Meanwhile 26k are on Bf4. Obviously it will calm down after awhile, but dang. I'm one of the few that have kept playing BF3 instead of moving to 4, and I'm used to seeing like 3,000 people online.

Permanent download or just for the weekend?

Got a cousin i am building a rig for and he is already interested in playing BF but for free who can turn down this? He plays a even deader game being Combat Arms and at night good luck with some of those game modes lol. Battlefield would be new and a bit more busy for him.

Permanent. Add the game to your account now and you'll have it forever.

I think you mean permanent once you get it in your account but available for free for a limited time.

I kind of wonder if this has something to do with the amount of stock available for BF3. I actually bought the BF3 Premium Edition before they announced this because my search at eBgames showed there was only a single copy left in the 3 stores in my area. I bought the last copy in my area. lol

Even though the Standard Edition is free I'm relieved I got a physical copy before they disappear.

Well, decided might as well, even if I never play it.

Don't remember Origin password, reset password, Origin doesn't accept the password I just changed it to (and had to verify by typing it twice).

Well played.

Yup. I know there's been a dozen threads stating this already, but it's worth mentioning that BC2 is still the superior game when compared to BF3 and BF4. It exhibits a level of design and intricacy that the newer BF games have totally failed to achieve. Makes me wonder what went wrong.

Free BF3 is still a good deal though.
