Battlefield 3 official performence/fps thread

I have tried Eyefinity (Single Player) today at 5760x1080 with the following system,

Core i7 920 @ 2.8GHz
3x 4GB DDR-3 1600MHz
2x ASUS HD6950 1GB (default clocks)
Cat 11.9 CAB 4

Game settings as bellow (pic shows 4800x900)

Game was playable but some times frames were diving even below 20, i will try at 4800x900 and ill report in a few days. 😉

you do know the game has issues with HT on the i7 cpus? at least on the 1366 and 1156 i7 cpus it does.

I was having a strange problem with Battlefield 2142 multiplayer,

When the CPU was OCed i was having input lag(ping was ok), when the CPU was at default the lag was gone and i have left it like that to test the BF3 at low CPU clocks.

From Monday i will have the original game and i ll test the system in multiplayer as well with CPU at 2.8GHz and higher 😉

Edit: About MSAA, with post Anti Aliasing medium or high and MSAA off, the IQ is very nice and you don't sacrifice a lot of performance.

and you are making yourself look foolish for the 3rd time. it was resolved right after it was discovered and we could go back and forth all day about certain drivers from both sides having certain issues with certain games especially on release so grow up.

Not really, there's still people posting about it elsewhere. Like I said, not everyone reads every tech site around.

You're seriously arguing that purchase decisions for a graphics card/s should be made based on the driver support for one game on its first day of its release only, without any level headed suggestion that the drivers will be improved within a matter of days/weeks depending on the severity of the problem?

Actually no, how many threads do you read on the net about "what card for BF3??!"?

I see hundreds if not thousands of the same question. Talking about day one, which is what I've always said...it's important to look at what card works best. People don't want to hear "well, later on it should work" They aren't going to spend $300 based on faith.

Plus the fact that BF3 is a game that has made more people want to upgrade their GPU since Crysis a few years back...yes I'd say it's important.

High, motion blur off, no AA, vsync on, 1920x1200

Mid 50s to 60. That's pretty damn good IMO for almost a 2 year old card now. I tried Ultra with no AA and it was good too but for some reason there would be random drops to 0.

well if they were Nvidia users, then those same people likely would have burned their cards up a while back anyway. you cant condemn AMD for a day 1 crossfire issue that was quickly resolved but ignore an official Nvidia driver release that damaged many peoples cards.

By the way, in the single-player game, the same settings take me to well over 100fps, so right away we know all those single-player benchmarks are useless for judging multiplayer fps.

I've settled on running with ultra/no msaa, vsync enabled, and I'm easily locked at 60fps and drop about 80w off my load draw, and keep both my cards under 70C. I'm using 950MB on each card.

And in case you're wondering, 1920 ultra with MSAA will not run. Exceeds the memory limit of my cards. I'm using catalyst 11.10, cap4.

It's not useless when it can constantly reproduce the same effects over and over for each card and give the same test over and over. Multiplayer is never going to be the same twice. Nobody is using the SP benchmarks as an indication of the MP experience, but as an indicator of which GPU configuration is the fastest and which is the best value as it pertains to this game. There's been some people who have noted that the overall FPS increases in MP on certain maps, while some situations I've encountered have dropped it way down. In a vehicle for example, I get about 15 extra FPS. It's hard to say what will run well and when. Gotta test for yourself.

Cite me an example of a major game release that has had major problems due to driver issues not being fixed to this day. This is your assumption and argument, provide some evidence.

If someone does make a purchase decision based on your flawed decision making model, then they (and yourself) should stick to consoles, they are certainly part of the target market.

You're assuming everyone keeps up with every driver release and everything. The general public does NOT exist on this forum. Go check the Battlefield official forum and you'll see literally hundreds of the same posts. The general PC gamer who might have been playing BF2 for a while or whatever other online game they enjoy might be interested in BF3 now. Generally speaking they are ignorant of drivers other than the idea that it should just work. I never once said problems will never be fixed. You're saying things that were never mentioned. Again most people have very little understanding of drivers. They just want the card to work. Heck, I know people who still install drivers off the CD and don't understand why things don't work all the time.

There's still people who can't even get the game to launch and they basically just blame EA for it without considering figuring out why.

I also never said I didn't have a problem with that particular issue. Granted I never experienced it either.

because you keep making a big deal out of something that has already been addressed. and then saying nonsense like this.

Don't matter. The driver package should never have left the door with broken parts.

It's more "oh we're working on it, just uninstall this part" that's BS

that's WHY I bring up Nvidia having official drivers being released that damaged peoples cards. it shows BOTH Nvidia and AMD can screw up driver releases. and uninstalling a freaking
driver profile is a hell of lot better than having to buy a new gpu. 🙄

the issue cmdrdredd is making abig deal about is the catalyst profile that had to be uninstalled because it caused some hitching in crossfire. I do not think there any other BF 3 driver issues.

Because the game engine doesn't respond well to MSAA, it removes few jagged edges for huge performance loss and a minor texture IQ loss. Post AA works great at removing A.

HBAO also drops performance a lot, but it does make shadows look the best in any game I've ever seen. Triple monitor setup may have to drop HBAO though. 🙁

This game doesn't look that good in many places outside of the first few mission. Some environment and gun models/ textures just look plain sloppy. Instead it relies heavily on ridiculous amount of vision obscuring effect such dust, fog and bloom to create an impression.

These are all in ultra with MSAA

Despite all the exclusive DX11 cuttings edge technology, Metro 2033 even in DX9 still looks better than BF3 indoors.

Hope you realize MP is the focus of BF series. I and most whom bought the game could care less what some SP mission having a crap doodad/decal.

why would they skimp on single player graphics? if anything it would be the other way around...
