Well, it may well be made one day I guess, the problem is it will certainly be the exact same setting as Battlefield 2, with better graphics, as usual. If we look at it, we've had a BF during WWII, a BF during Vietnam, a BF during Modern day and a BF set in the future. What's left for "some" originality? I'm not sure myself, WWIII? Or maybe JUST maybe a fantasy-based Battlefield? Such as... I don't know... maybe such as armies of Orcs, Goblins, Elves, Mages and some Men duking it out on the field? But that would be just like Warhammer (not the 40,000 setting, but the fantasy one)... so what's left?

And, thinking about it, there's already Battlefiled Bad Company which is set in modern days with better graphics than BF2 so if there's a BF3 there's a good chance that it'll just look like that and play like that with perhaps a few differences here and there. In other words, what I'm trying to say here is that I myself certainly am not actually demanding a Battlefield 3, but if it does exist and is currently under development then I won't hold my breath for something particularly better in terms of game-play than what's available now. Unless of course that better graphics means better game-play (which I do know is the case today and since a couple of years already for many gamers around) then yeah, I guess that BF3 will work and people will buy it even if they see some Mc Donald's ads while driving their Tank in a war-thorned village.

Battlefield 1776: Revolutionary War - Single shot hand guns, barrel loading flintlock rifles, no accuracy beyond 100m. No grenade spamming or pussy snipers.

Battlefield Napoleon - Battlefield in the Napoleonic wars

Battlefield 1852 - Battlefield set in the American civil war

Plenty of content left to draw money from the consumer.

battlefield 3000, the battle for earth.

It actually is. I've played a Revolutionary War mod for source, and its damn fun. 1 shot rifle, and takes 10 seconds to reload.

Can you read?

I was assuming you were being sarcastic.

Actually my point was how it wouldn't work at all were it to be remotely historically accurate, but then I remembered we were talking about the Battlefield games, so we don't really need historical accuracy all that badly.

If you're trying to be historically accurate, you wouldn't want the reload time to be 45 seconds. More like 20 seconds.

How about adding the ability for users to design their own custom maps and game types that would auto-download for people when they join servers hosting them?

if you choose sniper, you should have to count against wind velocity and real life sniping situations.

is BF3 actually being made ? any links to screenies ?

It needs to be more realistic than BF2 but as much fun as BF1942, flying a spitfire in BF1942 was just amazing.

That's nice. The overall point is it wouldn't work for ADD addled America, especially not the hyper-stimulated spoiled white suburban kids that make up most of the games market.

Reading all this is giving me a nice woody :)

I just hope, when and if BF3 comes out it is released with the suggestions some of you mentioned.

It can stay Modern Warfare and still be awesome. With extras weapons, vehicles, maps.... basically a large expansion type and I'm good to go!

Yeah, same basic game format, and modern warfare only greatly improved:

Graphics
Effects/Visceral quality
Sound
Gameplay polish
Scale
Variety

About a decade off there, that is closer to the Mexican-American war, but it was over by that time.

Well, it was early in the morning for me. :p

I say you definitely stay with the modern day weapons, add in an African group with guerilla tactics (Blackhawk Down anyone?), RPG-7s and bunches of normal people running around with AK-47s while setting tires on fire. Refresh the weapons lineups to have different unlocks for different factions according to current situations. Add in widescreen support and definitely improve graphics (but not include HDR because that just blinds the hell out of me). I'll also take destructible environments (although we'd abuse that so much) and blood please.

Battlefield 1860
Sounds better than the other ones... won't just be a goddamned vehicle battle.

Not necessarily. I believe the first all metal submarines used in battle were used in the Civil War. But your point is well taken.

im looking forward to this.

id be happy with a time period of say a 10-20 years from now modern shooter. just slightly futuristic, but nothing like 2142. kind of like what FOW tried to be but failed at.

Was about to say...which American Civil War is he talking about?

Anyway, yeah, bring on Battlefield 1776. 45 seconds to reload sounds *awesome*.

It actually is. I've played a Revolutionary War mod for source, and its damn fun. 1 shot rifle, and takes 10 seconds to reload. You get really careful tactical gameplay because anywhere but the leg and arm is a one shot kill. Then you have the bayonet and sword rushes after both teams get close to each other.

But I don't think it would work well in the context of a full game.

They could try like, Battlefield 3k. Battlefield in the far future. But then it would be called Quake Wars..

What mod were you talking about? A link would be appreciated.

Another game with lame vehicle spam and vastly oversized maps? yea... can't wait until we have yet another skill devoid FPS.

i'm a big BF fan, but BF2 happens to be the one BF game i skipped. i played a lot of 2142 and i always hear 2142 players claim how much better 2142 is because of the balance of the game and no more bunny hopping and dolphine diving.

I didnt find 2142 remotely as enjoyable as BF2, you should at least give the demo a shot

no.

BF2142 has turned me off from BF games sooooo badly. particularly, lack of support for vista 64, lack of ability to fully remap controls how i want them to be, and the idiotic / moronic responses i got from tech support about these issues. these thinsg helped me make up my mind and made me not want to buy anotehr BF game. ever.

Yeah, I remember having to remap the right mouse key to "forward" every time I restart the game. It won't save that setting. I wonder if this was fixed in the 1.5 patch?
