Well, it may well be made one day I guess, the problem is it will certainly be the exact same setting as Battlefield 2, with better graphics, as usual. If we look at it, we've had a BF during WWII, a BF during Vietnam, a BF during Modern day and a BF set in the future. What's left for "some" originality? I'm not sure myself, WWIII? Or maybe JUST maybe a fantasy-based Battlefield? Such as... I don't know... maybe such as armies of Orcs, Goblins, Elves, Mages and some Men duking it out on the field? But that would be just like Warhammer (not the 40,000 setting, but the fantasy one)... so what's left?

And, thinking about it, there's already Battlefiled Bad Company which is set in modern days with better graphics than BF2 so if there's a BF3 there's a good chance that it'll just look like that and play like that with perhaps a few differences here and there. In other words, what I'm trying to say here is that I myself certainly am not actually demanding a Battlefield 3, but if it does exist and is currently under development then I won't hold my breath for something particularly better in terms of game-play than what's available now. Unless of course that better graphics means better game-play (which I do know is the case today and since a couple of years already for many gamers around) then yeah, I guess that BF3 will work and people will buy it even if they see some Mc Donald's ads while driving their Tank in a war-thorned village.

Battlefield 1776: Revolutionary War - Single shot hand guns, barrel loading flintlock rifles, no accuracy beyond 100m. No grenade spamming or pussy snipers.

Battlefield Napoleon - Battlefield in the Napoleonic wars

Battlefield 1852 - Battlefield set in the American civil war

Plenty of content left to draw money from the consumer.

About a decade off there, that is closer to the Mexican-American war, but it was over by that time.

Battlefield 1860
Sounds better than the other ones... won't just be a goddamned vehicle battle.

I wouldn't mind a BF3 set in the BF2 universe, just give me more guns and vehicles, and I'm set.

Ability to spawn with a stinger (or soviet equivalent) to prevent air power imbalance, destructible environments, modern physics engine, few bugs, tons of maps (or have a program to approve community made maps to allow people to gain stats / ranks / levels on custom maps), 256+ players per map (for the really big ones), modern graphics engine, same level of complexity (or above) as BF2, and it would be a worthy BF3 set in a BF2 universe.

Was about to say...which American Civil War is he talking about?

Anyway, yeah, bring on Battlefield 1776. 45 seconds to reload sounds *awesome*.

I think that the battlefield series has gotten better and better with each release. For BF3, they just need to make sure that they are improving a lot more and making a jump in the graphics engine.

I played BF2 and 2142 most and thought there were many elements that 2142 improved upon making it more preferable to me. I enjoyed the persistence of 2142 much more than the other games in the series.

I have barely played Bad Company but the descructive enviroments is a major leap in realism needed in FPS. I think that if BF3 adds a much better graphics engine as well as an even more revamped player persistance track where it added even more RPG type elements, then you would have a completely new game set in whatever timeframe be it modern, future or stone age! What keeps me involved in a game is one that offers more than just the goal of getting the top score in a round but also all of the unlocks, ranks and other things that could be added in a future BF3 game. I don't know what the balancing issues that would be associated with this but I look forward to something that will breathe some new life into a team FPS

It actually is. I've played a Revolutionary War mod for source, and its damn fun. 1 shot rifle, and takes 10 seconds to reload. You get really careful tactical gameplay because anywhere but the leg and arm is a one shot kill. Then you have the bayonet and sword rushes after both teams get close to each other.

But I don't think it would work well in the context of a full game.

They could try like, Battlefield 3k. Battlefield in the far future. But then it would be called Quake Wars..

The revolutionary war mod is actually really fun, I should redownload it. But like you said...a full game like that? ehhh. Maybe if /you/ were a group of like 20 guys in formation or something- but I doubt any team in a public server would have the strategy to utilize that effectively. The battles sure would be epic though.

BF3 with more vehicles/guns/customization would be awesome. I'd be fine with CoD4-level customization - I just want to be able to switch between silencer, scope, red dot, etc. and select my grenade type - maybe get a disposable rocket launcher like an RPG too. Basically I want CoD4-type action with vehicles and big maps. Shoulder-fired stingers would be pretty awesome, too, in order to mitigate air dominance.

Since we had several messages mentioning stingers, I'd like to interject a little plug for the DCON Mod for BF2. It's the only one I know of with a somewhat effective weapon against planes (in the AT Kit).
Download this and play it while you're waiting for BF3 to arrive! I have a feeling you have a long wait. (plus, I need more opponents, dammit!)

I was assuming you were being sarcastic.

Actually my point was how it wouldn't work at all were it to be remotely historically accurate, but then I remembered we were talking about the Battlefield games, so we don't really need historical accuracy all that badly.

They'd also have a little trouble on the vehicle end. Horses? Wagons? Pushing a cannon around?

Regardless, I think the history of armed conflict is pretty well used up for the Battlefield franchise. It's a shame too...some of the best gaming hours of my life in that franchise. The original and BF2 were the real standouts though. The others were essentially mods.

I played Desert Combat back in the day and miss the old helicopter flight controls - you could be a much better pilot in DC than in BF2. Sadly it looks as if the DCON downloads are down for now - I'll check back later.

Not looking forward to. I had major issues with what the publisher did with BF2 so I quit playing, never bought any expansions or the next BF. I won't buy this one either.

BUT...For those still excited about the franchise grats on the new game coming out! Hope it's a good one for ya!
