I had to do a full re-install of my PC, so I figured for fun I'd leave out the discrete video card I just acquired, and do a fresh install of Windows 7 w/ SP1 (no other Windows Updates), full drivers, and Battlefield 3, just to see what it'd be like at the lowest settings - or if it'd even run.

Machine is a Phenom II X2 550, unlocked to 4 cores no overclock, 4GB DDR3-1333, all on a Foxconn 790GX motherboard running the latest BIOS, all graphics options max'd in BIOS (no overclock though).

Origin and Battlefield 3 installed fine, however, when I chose a server and it went to launch BF3, this is what popped up instead:

So it looks like if your card is nVidia, you need it to be at least DirectX 10.0...and if your card is AMD/ATI, you need it to be at least DirectX 10.1.

What would be interesting is someone trying to run BF3 with just onboard video on a AMD 880G or 890GX board, since those are DX 10.1...I wonder if it'd work at some super low res, or, if it'd just error out as well.

Onto another install with the discreet, hope this satisfies someones curiousity down the road about onboard video and BF3... :)

Onboard chips don't have a snowballs chance in hell of running BF3 at playable framerates. My 6770m gets about 10 fps at 1366x768. It runs Skyrim very well though. Something may have glitched on my switchable graphics which could explain the poor performance.

Oh, I didn't expect it to be playable, just thought it'd be interesting. This PC is using a CRT, so I can put the resolution at whatever without penalty. Was interested to see if I could go down to 800x600 or something like that and a.) if it'd run and b.) what it'd look like.

Oh well, discrete video card install done, experiment over.... :)

Asking people on this forum would've saved you a lot of trouble.

youtube search:

Battlefield 3 AMD Liano A8-3850@ 2.9Ghz (stock), IGP GPU:750 Mhz (think 600mhz is stock) (DDR3 1600)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx5zLX1XbdQ&feature=related

Its abit laggy because of fraps. 1280x800 @medium settings, no AA, no AF.

youtube comments:
without fraps how much frame?
re:
i use Play Claw, 27-32FPS its playble

stock A8-3850's with only DDR3-1600, playing BF3 on its IGP = neat.

I also tried " AMD 880G IGP + battlefield 3 "......

nothing.... no one tried it and made a video of it... I dont think it would run very well though.
