Battlefield 2142 -- do people still play it online?

Yes, and I've found that the experience (as pertains to server "fullness") hasn't changed appreciably. There are fewer players total, but also fewer servers, but as you may expect those players have gravitated together so that it's still pretty easy to find a full or mostly-full server to play on.

Then again, I haven't played in the last couple of months since BC2 (and beta before it) - I imagine there's quite an overlap in playerbase.

That's not going to take away the player base of 2142. 2142 in many ways is a superior game to Bad Company 2, and is just overall a different experience. Your not going to find anything like Titan mode in any other game.

Seconded (not so much for the "superior", but for the "different"), especially for Titan mode (my fave). Given the difference in the setting (modern vs. sci-fi) I can certainly see a Venn diagram with three circles representing the playerbases of all three games (BF2, BF2142, BFBC2), with a larger percentage of the BF2 circle overlapping the BFBC2 circle than that of BF2142 (but with a non-negligible triple-overlap of fans of all three).

Yup. Titan mode was so fun. I would love to see this game updated graphically.

+1

I loved that mode and it would be stunning if they just re-skinned the game using Frostbite.

Anyone remember the secret Doom level that was a Wolfenstein re-skin? So good.

Battlefield 2 is a lot more popular than 2142.

No doubt, but BF2 is older, and if people are playing that there should still be people playing 2142. There are more than enough people playing 2142 to have good games. I tried BF2 last weekend, and there were still lots of servers, but I think most of the popular ones were outside the US. My pings were always around 200, and I got auto-booted for it.
