Anyone paying the beta? Here's my thoughts.

Doesn't feel like the BF I'm used to but I have enjoyed the couple hours I played so far. It's much more crazy and chaotic to the point of reminding me of COD.

I do play COD, sometimes. But my go to multiplayer fps was always Battlefield.

Lately I've been enjoying Hell Let Loose too, much more realistic.

Movement is a bit floaty and much faster than previous games.

UI is a mess (does black highlight mean that is what is selected?)

Vehicles are also super light, no weight to them, also feel floaty.

Specialists have no purpose. Why does everyone get to equip of any gadget they want?

Why do all the characters look the same on both sides?

While I enjoy the large scale warfare, it's much more chaotic than previous BF games.

On the fly weapon mod is nice but then again they should have had unique weapon mods per specialist if they are going to have specialists.

I wish we got to experience a different game mode but with everyone able to use any weapon the feel might be the same.
Ugh, will that's disappointing to read. BF1/5 already felt like you were Usain Bolt running around the map, I can't imagine it being even faster now. Looking like my battlefield days are behind me.

Finally reset my origin password and was able to join but pissed off it uses my origin name instead of my steam name and am pissed off it requires steam AND origin to run.

for the few minutes I was able to play it felt good.
I managed to get a kill assist
I liked the massive map
Running felt fine imo
Jumping over fences and stuff felt good
Shooting felt good, sound wasn’t memorable so sounds need work
Got run over by a tank which I felt was awesome, as poster above said the tank looked like it was sliding along and seemed to lack weight it bounced a bit when it hit the indestructible curb
I lost 10 points due to friendly fire before I fired a shot or did anything

overall I enjoyed my brief gameplay hopefully I have time to try it again.

I did not like all the needless bs required to play:
Link your steam & origin account
Update your cards driver
Give access to god knows what on my computer
Change my origin name
Find out some bastards took FanaticalMeat and Fanatical_Meat and Fanatical-Meat, reflect as to why that makes me sad....think up new improved name fails check, think up another name fails check and again and again.
v2Fanatical_Meat works yay! Then play for a few minutes because of all the bs to be able to play. That part sucked.

EA sucks. I like DICE, but EA is the worst.

This game won't be what battlefield used to be in the series. It's changing to compete with apex, cod, and the other more popular shooters.

Disappointing really, as I was really looking forward to a more modern battlefield. None of the developers from BV 4 or 5 worked on 2042.

They need to introduce the classes system again or rework the specialists into classes. Or limit the specialists to certain perks and gadgets so not everyone is running a meta build, one man team type of deal.

I'm hoping Portal is the better answer to this, but we don't even know how it will work and what features will be delivered on launch for Portal. Then who will maintain the Portal game modes or servers if it's solely left to the players to create this content?

How is the game like COD? So far I've read reviews of the game that hate the bugs, but still say the gameplay is expansive like a BF should be.

I liked BFV, but it was one of the worst received BF's and it died faster than all the good BF's I played, so not sure having the developers of BFV would necessarily be a good thing. I was in the minority of BF players that liked BFV, I would not want another repeat.

I will get the game to see what it's like. BF1's beta was hated on dramatically, but that was a fun game.

The specialist vs class seems like it could be annoying if not at least tweaked, but in the beta I read they were not fully fleshed out yet, so we shall see.

I'm guessing you didn't get to play the open beta. The game's movement and gunplay isn't like previous battlefield games, including BF V and I know it had a rough start but I liked V as well.

Movement in 2042 is much faster, you can now also have tactical sprint which let's you run much faster in a burst, and you can now run and slide for long lengths. Player and vehicle movement felt floaty.

Gunplay also is much quicker, guns don't have the same weight and feel as BF V. Even conquest felt much faster paced like COD. Despite the 128 players, the maps I think are too big and empty and the map we got in the beta is supposed to be 'medium'. Even with 128 players it felt like empty unused space.

The specialists is the worst change. Everyone can carry any gun and gadgets. While this may not be a bad thing, Battlefield was known for its class system to create the concept of teamwork.

Now I can be the sniper guy and also have an ammo crate or medic crate. Many people were playing the Mackay specialist because of his tactical sprint and grappling hook.

I know that there are 10 total specialists at launch but they need to modify them so not everyone can be a one man army. They need to lock certain gadgets to specialists based on the perks they have. Right now anyone can carry any combination of load out.

Also there was no comms wheel like in previous battlefield, no grenade indicator, no way to know if your team members need ammo or healing, etc. But I guess that does not matter if anyone can carry whatever they want in their load out.

I love this feedback haha. Basically we understand the feedback you guys gave around this but we've done nothing to address it.

They could have at least locked gadgets to certain specialists so that people don't create overpowered builds.

Looks like anyone can still create any load out they want.

I feel like there needs to be more incentive for team play like before.

I'm not too concerned right now. Really comes down to if there is a way to counter a load out or not. Only after hours of gameplay with everything in it will reveal if it throws the balance of the game out of wack.

Seems a lot of quality of life issues were addressed today as well.

I'm sure there will be balancing after the game comes out if anything is glaring.

The one specialist that reveals enemies which did damage to you and reveals enemies behind cover/walls already seems overpowered.

I imagine a lot of people will run that one or the dude that has the cyber warfare suit which can hack players and vehicles in game.

It's almost like if you don't run either one of those you could be at a disadvantage if everyone else is using them.

Will see what it's like at release but I'll probably just only be playing the Portal mode assuming it is complete at launch.

Also no voice chat or in game map at launch. Apparently bringing up the map in game has performance issues. It is looking more and more like cod/Apex.

Yeah the chick that can totally wall hack, I think she will definitely be nerfed. The cyber hack dude, maybe slight nerf, I mean it depends on the range of his hack. If you have to get close to a person to hack them, to then kill them, to then briefly see where their squadmates are, odds are you'll be dead already.

There will be balancing for sure.

No voice chat in game at launch is stupid, they just don't want to delay it past another holiday season basically.

Yea the cyber hack guy I think you need to be in somewhat of a close range to activate his hack. It's not as bad as the chick because he has to actually scan someone and kill them for his team to be shown enemies in proximity to him.

Could be useful if you get the drop on someone, also depends on map size.

I wonder who's decision at EA or Dice it was to turn Battlefield into a hero shooter? Obviously they did it because they saw cod/warzone attracts lots of younger gamers and the use of specialists allows them to monetize by selling skins and perks each season.

The issue it seems is the Specialist is where DICE is planning on getting MTX from. So I don't sem them scrapping them altogether. Hopefully they learned from Battlefront.

My 6600K is maxed out even in the menus, while the GPU sits at 10%. Something is not right.

There is no scoreboard. WTH...
There was no score board in the open beta either. I bet the in game map is not there either because they said it was having issues and they wouldn't know if they would be done with it by release.

I don't get access until next week since I only got the standard edition.

The map works. I am doing the 10hr trial through gamepass. Seems OK I guess. Haven't played a huge amount, just a couple of conquest games.

Will probably shelve it for a few weeks, see if they can clean it up. Lot of glitches. Not feeling the main mode. Maybe just not into these huge scale battle fps anymore, last one I enjoyed was BF1.

They did change the game quite a lot from previous titles. I never really played conquest much either. Always was more of a fan of rush.

I was going to ask if you tried out Portal. That's probably where I'll spend most of my time because it has the old school classes/weapons and maps from previous battlefield games.

Portal is fun. Smaller maps and fewer players. I think the 2042 side is just too chaotic for me. Too many people and vehicles all over the place.

Finally got a few rounds in today after having nothing but issues connecting and crashing yesterday. My initial thoughts:

- Either I’m getting old and suck now, or damn I just plain suck!
- I miss faction specific weapons and vehicles.
- Graphics are good, but the game is seen through a very BLUE lens (much more than 4).
- Maps are massive. No vehicle = you’re SOL!
- Not sure it scratches that Battlefield itch for me yet, after years of playing and wearing out bf4. I don’t want to rush to judgment, but something feels “off” for me with this game. It doesn’t play like a bf game to me.

Yea well they got rid of traditional classes and used specialists so they can make money off of selling skins and seasonal items/more specialists. They also made the gameplay/movement quicker than what we were used to from previous battlefield games. When I played the beta it reminded me of cod.

I agree from what I saw in the beta the conquest maps are huge. Orbital is considered a medium size map. Even with 128 players it felt empty at times.

I'm having fun with it. Portal is great, playing old games with newer graphics is very fun. Playing old maps that I've spent so much time on brings back a lot of memories. I look forward to more maps being added. But is there no optics in these games? BF3 is just iron sights from what I can tell. Don't see an option for upgrading or adding anything mid game by hitting T like the main game.

Almost too many classes in the main game. And with everyone being able to repair, heal, etc classes don't matter much. Sure there are some fine tuning you can do but it's still too much imo. I like specific classes, with abilities only they can do. Which is why I've been playing more portal than anything.

Few bugs, nothing terrible. Z is my prone, works fine in main game. Will not go prone in any of the portal games. I can kneel, but not prone. Makes it hard trying to shoot a lmg or just avoiding people.

Only played about 5 hours, but I am overall pretty happy with it. Some maps it takes forever to get anywhere if you can't spawn close, some things are over powered, but it's not terrible.

That's really good to hear about Portal. I was so mad when I played the open beta and saw that the actual classes were gone from the main game. They each had their purpose and pretty much brought teamwork together.

Sounds like I'll be spending more time in Portal too. The only thing that sucks about Portal is that if all players leave a server, the server shuts down. Maybe in the future people can pay to keep some servers active.
