in theory you should be able to run 1280x1024(or 960, whatever it is) with 6AA, but from what i have read you may need 2GB of ram to run the resolution that high. try it out and let us know.

my rig in sig can do 800x600 4AA but i am gpu limited but have a new card on the way :), then i will probably add another 1GB of ram...

If you had 2GB, you could probably sets everything to high. With your setup, i would think that you could put almost everything on high with the rez at something like 1024*768.

With my rig (AMD Athlon 3200+, 512MB PC2700, 7200RPM HDD, X800XL) I have it at 1024*768 with almost all settings to medium with 2xAA except i think dynamic light is on low and dynamic shadows are on off or something and the FPS never dips below 40FPS.

Cool,

i am considering selling my Corsair Twinx 3200C2PRO and buying Corsiar value select 2GB 2.5cas instead which should only cost about £20-30 after selling my XMS. Does RAM really make that much of a difference?

for the a64 unless you are really into o/cing, then the ram timings are not that important and you would be better off with 2GB of "slower" ram than 1GB of "faster" ram. personally, if i were you, i would sell the xms stuff if you can get a decent price for it and get 2GB of the other ram. from what i have read, to fully utilize your 6800ultra in bf2 in all its glory you will need 2GB of ram.

i kow even running at 800x600 4AA i still hit 970MB of total ram usage while gaming, and i usually idle at ~250MB when not gaming, just the machine running the couple programs i have going, firefox and oe and the background apps.

AMD 64 2800+ 1.8GHZ
2x512 PC3200 Wintec Ram (El Cheapo)
MSI 6600GT 128MB

With that I can run everything on high @ 1024x768 no problem. So it should do well on your system.

I have the same chip and vid card. 1 Gig of the Patriot w XBL at 1T 2,2,2,5
using onboard sound. One 74G Raptor HD. All my components are at stock speed.

I run at 1600x1200, everything at high except shadows. I run Ansio at HIGH in the BF options and I think I'm running 2x AA. Audio is set to hardware and medium. I have some page file access in the beginning of a map, and occassionally during a game, but it's very managable. I'm willing to accept it for eye candy. Considering another 2x512 of the same RAM to eliminate the paging to disk.

Hi,

Tried to turn on everything on high except lighting and shdows which is off/low and AA is on 2x and when i am on a 32 player server and i am on max zoom as commander and a lot is going on it really slows down until the business stops? would it be the Ram? or is the Ultra not upto playing everything on full?

Thanks

what is your ram usage? after you game for a while, hit ctrl-alt-del and select the performance tab. then look at Commit Charge (K) and see what peak was.

since the last time i wrote i received my x800xtpe and run it at 1280x960 6AA most on high and dynamic shadows and lighting off. on a large 64 player map with a lot of people i will hit over 1GB of total usage, but i really don't notice it, which i am attributing to my fast scsi system hdd. even when a commander, there is never a slow down, regardless of how intense the fighting is. i would say my fps never goes under 30 at any time.

here is a pic of my usage after a couple games - 1.4GB max usage

look @ my rig. even w/ a 6600gt and an oc'ed xp cpu, i put everything to minimum except draw distance. I do use 2x aa though. I just can't stand jagged edges. jagged edges all over my monitor makes me dizzy, so i put everything to min settings except 2xaa
