Its very interesting, this concept of friendly-fire in online first person shooters. I suppose the argument is that it adds a sort of "realistic" feel to the game, and helps to check people's fire (less spray and pray). Perhaps more appropriate (and funny) is the even more "realistic" result that friendly fire has of pissing people off, creating ill-will amongst teammates and starting threads like this. It's not really a big problem for me, b/c half the time (literally, i'm not kidding here people, this is an EPIdemic in BF 2) i'm flying in the air b/c of an artillery strike, friendly or otherwise. The biggest thing i've noticed is that people simply get frustrated after some time, and before they leave the server they simply start hosing all their nearest teamates in the spawn area. Does anyone know DICE's take on this - why FF was implemented as part of the game, whether it can be turned off on certain servers, etc.
I play on a Day of Defeat server where FF is always on, and with the right kind of players (i.e. competitive, but not immature) and good admins, it can work to enhance the gameplay. Most of the time though - and I gotta be honest with ya, most of the time is practically ALL the time - it simply generates ill-will. Player a kills player b, player a doesn't apologize, player b kills player a, and the war begins....
