you have a lot more patience than I do... I crashed into the sea a couple of times and simply quit trying to fly them.

Well, create a local game. Go USMC. You get two choppers to practice on. By the time you crash the second into the ocean, the first has already respawned. Rinse and repeat :D

Get a joystick. Seriously. I just got into a chopper and with no effort, I'm the best pilot on any server I join. No effort, no learning curve (for me). I can take off, land anywhere...hell, I've landed blackhawks on the roof of the hotel more than once. Landing to rearm on the carrier/arifield is sooo easy.

Joystick! I hadn't thought of that.

Of course, now that I've learned KB&M, it might take some retraining. Should be easier though. Shakey hands and all :p

I find the choppers pretty easy to fly with just a mouse. That being said, I did spend MANY hours learning the skill with DC so it was pretty easy to adopt to the new game. My only issue is hitting crap with the rockets, I seem to have issues where I can blow everything and everyone up around my target, but not the actual target...heh heh

See, you'd think that until you used a joystick. I was fortunate enough to have one when '42 came out and within a month or so, I realized that I could use it. That stick was `8 years old and finally died last week (which I guess was okay, since whatever sound card I next get won't have a gameport :(, so the switch to USB was necessarry) but BF:2 is the only reason I replaced it.

Helicopters are more effective if the pilot just holds it steady and lets the gunner blast the crap out of everything. Rockets are extremely underpowered for as much work as they take to fire accurately unless its a large target like a tank.

Chin mounted machine guns and guided misiles though? Those things can tear stuff up! :D

Agreed, a pilot / gunner team can be incredibly powerful, especially if you have VOIP functioning

I am a goddamn pro at flying those choppers. And sure, many may figure out how to fly them good, but on the servers I've played, a lot of people are still completely ignorant on how much ass the chopper kicks. I absolutely will not take off without a wingman either, you guys are right about the secondary guns being extremely powerful. I like to fly inbetween buildings in the middle of the map and just hold the chopper steady while the gunner goes crazy. Sure, I may get knocked out of the sky by anti-tank missiles, but my gunner has just racked up 15 kills and the base is all but lost :). Hiding between buildings also lowers the ammount of time you spend listening to jets lock onto you.

I think the perfect scenario if playing USMC, would be to go support, be the squad leader, and then fly the large transport chopper. Then your entire squad can spawn into the chopper and you can drop them off at needed locations, also you can double for resupplying ammo. My friends and I always end up MEC though because everyone wants to be USMC (or so it seems).

AND THAT MY FRIENDS is why BF2's air Sucks...the physics are all wrong and N00bified hardcore.....Look at my name.. Its well deserved from DC..I'll wait for BF2 mod Desert CONFLICT to fix everything ty

I played on a certain server, and suddenly I got a tutorial message that weapons were unlocked.

Those Jackhammers and G3 battle rifles are cool. :D

On the USMC, dont count out the TV missle. That thing can destroy any tank, and is super easy to aim. But agreed, the most important factor is the pilot...you need to realize you need to fly very smoothly and slowly for the gunner to be effective, because your missles are worthless.

As far as the transport chopper, unless youre stuck on the carrier, dont bother with it. We lost several matches one night cause a decent portion of our team were playing with the damn chopper and letting all the points get taken. The chopper is useful, but its more useful to spawn at your team leader.

choppers were an art form in DC , now my dead cat can hover one in BF2. I especially hate that the missles aren't autofire....Yes Im bitter

I've had one good pilot once, I got 109 kills on the server. Everyone on that server HATED us, we killed everyone and stole all the kills. :D

I've got a good idea of how the chin mounted gun works and can lead targets pretty very well. The missles are a bit werid though, how do they work exactly?

I've had many medics drag me out of the wreckage of many tanks and APCs.

I appreciate the work they do. But I still  M4 + C4 ;)

I perfer the G36C, the Iron Sights on this gun actually work!

While I agree CG is a tool he's right, DC had the physics and control down pretty well. I much prefer them to BF2.

I have a smokin' system and just got a BFG 6800 OC and even installed the supplied NVIDA drivers with the BF2 demo and I still cannot play it because it going through some crazy loading because I altered the video settings, it gets stuck at 47% right before I try to join a server. Weak sauce.

patience young grasshopper. the first time i played mine sat at 47% then 62% then 81% for like 3 mins. walk away, come back and you should be fine.

also when is a mod going to come out to circumvent or give an alternative to EA's ranking database? i've heard only EA servers are going to award ranking points.
