Rgith now Im running BF2 at 1024x760 with all high (last 2 medium) and no AA/AF. Im getting around 60-100fps constant (is this game fps capped?) but its pretty playable. I thought my rig would be able to run it better tho.
My specs are :

AMD 3500+ Winnie @ stock
A8V Deluxe
1gig corsairddr400 3200 Cl2 ram
256mb 6800GT @ stock
485w Enermax noisetaker

Im using the drivers given with Bf2, but I think these are not as good as other drivers out now. Who can recommend the best Nividia drivers for battlefield 2?

Also post what sort of FPS you get pls

edit; i think im getting quite bad fps for the settings n my rig ...

BF2 is an absolute resource hog. Until they release some optimazations (be it drivers or a patch for the game itself), theres not much you can do but wait.

I was having stability problems and rolled back to my previous nVidia drivers (71.89?). Everything is fine, I don't use dynamic shadows anyway, and I use 2xAA. I believe nVidia has released new drivers since BF2 was released; I would wipe the included BF2 drivers clean and try the new official nVidia ones if I were you.

My BF2 runs semi-smooth. I'm running all high settings and its just loading and at first in game when it skips on me for a few seconds then that disappears.

I just think they released the game in a hurry and I'm expecting patches to fix performance.

I downloaded a Battlefield 2 Performance Optimizer patch off of a bittorrent site shortly after the game was released. Here is what the readme says.

"This little patcher is dedicated to all who suffer from low frames and constant jitters that hinder your ingame capabilities. Simply open the exe and direct it to your BF2 directory (eg. C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2) and NOT to any of the folders within it.. just the BF2 Directory. Once selected click 'Optimize!' and voila.. you should notice significant increase in performance:p. The patch changes values with the bf2 system files, mainly to do with audio and refresh rates which boost fps and maintain efficiency."

I haven't installed it yet since my games runs pretty smooth, even though I have everything on Med except effects, they are on high. If anyone would like this leave your e-mail here and i'll send it out to you.

I have an Athlon 2500+, 1gig of value ram and a radeon 9800 pro. I run at 1024x768, all on medium except lights and shadow I placed on low. Its playable, I get some jitters, but what really bothers me is the crash to desktop bug. Hope they fix this soon. :|

I have a wierd problem on a 9800pro on latest drivers
I run medium settings @1024 with 2xAA
It used to run smooth but lateley for some reason - jump in a chopper or plane and for the next 30 seconds, fps goes down from 45 -50 to 7-10
It still happens even if the chopper is still on the ground but as long as the rotors are moving -- If I sit there for 30 seconds -- flying becomes ok again :|
Is this a ram issue?

I've also tried lowering to 800x600 with no difference -- and the game looks noticabley worse :(
any suggestions?
maybe you should post up the patch on rapidshare or something JE78 :)

btw - forgot to mention I have 1gig ram and a winnie 3000
and 2xAA makes a huge difference in visual quality - so I prefer to keep it if possible

Well I just tried to run it. It tries to connect to the internet (ZoneAlarm poped up, but I denied it. I'm not sure why it it would need to connect to the internet to change values in the BF game. I ran a virus scan and it came up clean. I could post it but at this point i'm not sure if it legit or not.

What CPU do you have and how do you measure the fps?

use fraps (fraps.com)
I have a amd64 3000+ (considerably faster than your's) although I am using cas 3 ram (2x512)

The fps jumps alot when in heavy action or jumping in a chopper as i've mentioned 10fps is just suicide (hard not to get kicked when U cant fly due to the fps)

Well I didn't allow it to connect to the internet so my key is safe right? Assuming thats what it was. Anyway, i won't be sharing this.

I usually like to keep terrain distance to a max. Don't like the idea of getting sniped because my settings were set too low. I will try and get fraps and run at 2xAA to see how things go. The chopper thing smells like a bug to me. I still feel we have to wait at least 1 or 2 months before this game gets stable.

I was thinking it was a memory leak bug - as it was working fine a few days ago -- and I had played quite a few maps today before this happened...
I have draw distance @ 100% too
2xAA makes it a whole lot nicer with regards to jagged edges -- I would even sacrifice texture quality for this

The only thing wrong I noticed with the settings I had was that mountains change shape (increse detail) as you move closer to them.

and JE78, Yes I hope your cdkey is ok -- I think a trxt file telling you what files to edit may be a safer option for tweaks in the future

Another thing -- does ATI tool allow for different profiles to be activated when certain programs are run (eg. BF2) but run at normal speed when on desktop?
I remember I had a program that did this but amongst my crapload of files I cant find it or remember what its called

EDIT: found the program - and for all you using ATI cards : radlinker
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=609
is the program - allows you to assign profiles to exe programs and overclocks when the exe is run

Thanks me too. I wasn't to thrilled about putting that file in the folder and running it. But like I said, I denied its access to the internet so I hope my key is ok.

I dled the latest nvidia drivers and theres about a 5-7 fps increase. Also type renderer.drawfps 1 in the command box to see ur fps

A program need not be a virus to do harm; for example it could delete files.

BF1942 was likewise locked at a maximum of 100 FPS. Try the command

renderer.lockfps x

where x is some higher value such as 200. This is most useful for discerning relative viddy card performance.

Athlon 2500+ barton, 1gig of ocz value ram, radeon 9800 pro. 1024@Medium with 2xAA. In a 64x64 player game I got frames ranging from 20-65. At 20 frames the game is barely playable. I turned off 2xAA and things got a bit better. I think I'm still better off playing 32x32 player games where there's a bit less action. I tried getting a heli or plane to try and test the fps while flying, but that didn't go too well.. people seem to love flying :)
