Thanks for clarifying that, but are you sure? I've been told that the native resolution of this monitor is 1920x1200. I usually run it a tad lower (makes things easier to read), but i've noticed that everything looks sharper at 1920x1200.

He was confusing you with the guy who had the L90D+ I think (didn't realise you had a 23" Apple display), which is why he thought you had 1280x1024 and not 1920x1200

Sorry, but lol @ 5:4 contrast ratio.

Good luck seeing anything with that ;)

(aspect ratio)

My bad :p

I wonder just how bad a 5:4 contrast ratio would be...most panels are at least 400:1 nowadays. :Q

wups  yep sorry about that. I must have skipped the 23" Apple part

CraigRT I can't get 1680x1050 to work either. I have heard folks with Dell 2005FPW's getting it to work fine though.

Wasn't there a patch that was supposed to come out that had Favorites and other things left out? Perhaps it will address this resolution lameness? I have a 2005fpw and have changed the switch of the shortcut but it sure doesn't seem like it's displaying 1680x1050.

I can't even start my game if that is in the cmd line... biggest res I've gotten to show up is 1400x1050.. been playing since the dawn of time like that it seems, I just haven't bothered dicking around much with it, since the game doesnt deserve my time to try and screw with it's broken ass. Annoying they did not add WS support. totally lame.

Just a quick follow up....

Actually, changing the shortcut's command line didn't do anything. I *thought* it was good to go, then realized how much sharper everything was when I raised the resolution to 1600x1200 using the in-game controls.

lucky you, I can't pick higher than 1280x960, the only reason I even got 1400x1050 to run is because I created a custom resolution within the nV control panel.

A very odd problem, to say the least. As I mentioned in my previous post, I also had to use the NV control panel to set some additional resolutions on my desktop. After doing that, three new resolutions popped up in the BF2 video options.

Honestly, I thought it had something to do with the fact that i'm using a widescreen apple display, but apparently its popping up on pc monitors as well.

And does anyone know when the patch is coming out? Wasn't it supposed to be out at the end of August?

Are you sure? That doesn't sound quite right. Do you know what panel manufacturer they use?

Edit: on a follow up, I did a little googling and found that most people believe that apple and dell are using the same panels. I called up one of my contacts at Phillips, and was told that this wasn't the case - Dell and Apple are extremely hush-hush about this - BUT - they do in fact buy different panels, often from the same manufacturer though.

There's a review of the 2005fpw on tomshardware.com that reviewed the two monitors side by side. At the time (this may have changed) it talked about how they were the same monitor but with different case engineering.

The 2005 panel is the same as the 20" apple monitors panel, but it's not the same as his 23".

I am about to buy a 2405FPW but if BF2 doesn't run at 1900x1200 I may not. Can anyone confirm it does work?

It does not as BF2 is only capable of 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions*. However a standard 1600x1200 can be run centered but be warned such a high resolution will require a very peppy system to maintain high quality settings with a playable framerate.

*A mock widescreen effect (cropped) may be possible by forcing via the shortcut target but would be silly

It does actually display in 1680 x 1050 if you edit the shortcut but all it's doing is stretching the screen to fit that res. I don't mind the look (thats what I run on my system with a Dell 2005fpw) but others hate the slightly wider looking guns, hud, etc...

Personally I find it better than the fov hack which actually removes details on the top and bottom or the black bars on the side which is really distracting to me when playing.

Empty space is distracting? OMG you must wig out at movie theatres what with the guaranteed to be not fully utilized screen area. :p

Empty space itself is not distracting, it's that whole not using the entire screen that really bugs me. My eyes want to take in the entire screen but I have to make myself focus just on the areas that are actually used. The black bars are quite signifigant on a widescreen monitor when running in 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio.
