Battlefield 2 Only 2 resolutions available : (

I just installed BattleField 2 that came with my new eVGA GeForce 7800 GTX and everything was ok up until I wanted to change the resolution to test my new card. Here I noticed I have only available 800*600 and 1024*768. I don't understand what is the problem because I used to have the demo and I had all the resolutions available (with an ATI X300 SE) but I didn't have the hardware. Now that I bought the hardware, I can't use the resolutions I could (I believe the maximum resolution available was 1280*960). I bought this expensive video card just to play BF2 in all its glory, can yoanybody help me please? I have heard about "shortcuts solutions". But I just want to play the game the way it should be....

Yep.. I got all the latest drivers...
I have a Hyundai L90D+ works wonders in every game... With the 7800 GTX I can play every game at 1280*1024 with all high details : D

I don't undertand... I had several resolutions options with the demo like 15 or so.... from 640*480 up until 1280*960... did they change the resolutions for the final game? I don't think so.... I find this answer from EA not very helpfu...

Tweakguides has a BF2 guide to optimizing and playing around with a few settings, I'm pretty sure they have a way listed to modify the Inf files so you can key in whatever rez you want.

When you say latest, do you mean the WHQL approved ones or the beta drivers? because I believe you need 77.73 or later to run BF2 properly with nvidia cards (my fps jumped from 30 to about 70 going from 77.72 to 77.76)

Oh and also I think there's a console command where you can set any resolution you like (don't know exactly what it is)

Just out of curiosity, does your advice apply to the 7800GTX in particular or to 6800 series cards as well?

Nothing to do with drivers, it's just bf2 is pants. You can set the resolution you want from the command line - just look into the tweak guide. For your next challenge now try to remap the keys

change this setting to match your setup:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1600x1200@75Hz

That's queer 'cause if the monitor is correctly installed any desktop resolution supported by the game should be available. Make sure it is, then if necessary try JonnyBlaze's suggestion but there are also specific profiles you may want to change it in too.

Lol I got a 19" CRT Dell monitor capable of 1600x1200 but a GeForce 4 MX 420 that does 17FPS on 800x600 in UTK2004. lol

I just installed the latest drivers... 77.72, Like I said I had all the available resolutions when I played the demo, so I'm pretty sure there is no problem with my Flat Panel. The only difference is the video card... from a ATI X300SE to a eVGA 7800 GTX. It has to be something with my video cards settings or Battlefield 2 retail version (1.02 patch). I read all about the shortcut way to set the resolution, but I just wanted to have BF2 as it should be :frown:

On the another topic everyone keep debating on... I had 1 Gb and everytime I started a game, it lagged like hell, at least for the first 2 minutes or so... I just upgraded today to 2 Gb and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I didn't see much difference in loading times... but the game is now flawless... incredibly smooth. So at least with my own experience... if you plan to play with all the video options set on high... 2 Gb is a no brainer

Yeah, but if yer o'erclocking then it is essentially $150 for a good additional 1GB for the difference bewixt one or two settings at high rather than medium. I still don't have the game... just the demo.... but ain't peaking beyond 1GB.

Just a little update... after trying and trying... I was looking at the options from the Nvidia drivers... and I noticed that the resolution of 1280*960 was not included in the resolutions supported by my LCD... so I created the custom resolution and now it appears in the game .... But I still have the problem of the antialiasing... I only have Off, 2X and 4X and I'm not so sure if it working... Any hints? Maybe it's a Nvidia drivers issue...

Also Maybe this is a dumb question... I don't know if this is just a pre-rendered movie or in-game footage, but I was watching the movie included in the BF2 DVD and there I saw this very cool explosion effect everytime something exploded, where you can see like a bubble, I assume from the sound wave... like a real explosion... and I have supposedly all the graphic in high detail and I have never seen that amazing effect while playing... is it real?

Ok,

I went ahead and used my Nvidia display control panel to add many resolutions that were missing from my desktop.

1152x864, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x1024, 1600x1200 - these were all missing from my desktop.

After adding them, I can now access a few more resolutions in BF2. They are:

1152x864, 1280x960, 1600x1200

That was nice to see, but I was hoping for 1280x1024 (or perhaps 1920x1200). Not that I have anything against 1024x768 mind you, its the sweetspot for many gamers, but I have a new rig that can handle the higher resolutions of BF2 with all the settings turned up. I'm using an apple 23" display if that makes any differance.

Is there an official EA tech support address that i can send a query too?

Mind the drive letter.

It will still say the last resolution you choose in the menu but it will run at 1280x1024 in game.

Also why add all those resolutions if you have a LD90+ you won't be able to run highier than the number of pixels on the screen... meaning 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 will just not work correctly.

Thank you for the explanation, I think that did the trick. I'm still not quite sure why the default resolutions only included two choices, but oh well, hehe.

I mean on the desktop. That LCD only has 1280x1024 physical pixels. So if you even try to use more it will simply make it so your desktop can scroll.

eh, not sure. Just didn't like the whole xmen vibe + I also didn't buy the game right off wiating for a hot deal, while most of you guys did, so I sorta just lost touch when I only had the demo.

Maybe I'll swing by the clan when I get a chance to play again. (been pretty busy lately, getting married next week...)

Just FYI, this game is ridiculous, I can't run 1680x1050 no matter what I do.
I've been playing at 1400x1050 for a while, as it's the highest/only res I can pick other than really small resolutions. the shortcut trick causes me crashing to the desktop.

Thanks for clarifying that, but are you sure? I've been told that the native resolution of this monitor is 1920x1200. I usually run it a tad lower (makes things easier to read), but i've noticed that everything looks sharper at 1920x1200.
